I must be doing something wrong. Drove manuals all my life and always shifted down to slow vehicle and when descending hills. Was taught this at a young age. My poppy said "that's the way you does it". Lots of trailer towing, hilly country and high mileage vehicles. Never had to replace a clutch.

OP..... nothing is wrong. You are not missing anything.

Just sounds like you drive conservatively.

If you ever get that truck above 3500 RPM, you’ll find out what you are missing.

Only thing you'll be missing if you keep that up is sacked out or broken valve springs, and worn rings.

Proper up shifting and down shifting does not toast the clutch. Riding the clutch pedal burns up a clutch.

People that burn up clutches are people who do not know how to properly shift a manual transmission.

Downshifting to slow down saves brake wear but does not wear out a clutch. If your experience is different, then you are one of those people who do not know how to drive a M/T.

Idk about the clutch's in newer toyota trucks, but the ones i had in older toyota compact pickup's didn't last more than 60k miles before they would chatter so bad i had to replace it. I did do a lot towing, and carrying heavy stuff. I've had all autos in my trucks after that with no more issues.

I find the truck to be happier between 2k-3500. I occasionally rev it out, but it doesn't seem to 'like it'. My other car was a Cayman which I took to redline all the time, so its not that I'm necessarily a conservative driver...

This activity pairs excellently with using coffee filters to filter your oil monthly, just to be sure.

Hey now, don't go agreeing with me and shit.

This is TW. There is a counterpoint to everything. Even if it doesn't make sense!
