I have never owned a pick up before. I plan to buy a house towards the end of the year and need a vehicle for moving stuff. I don’t need a specialized vehicle like the 4Runner nor do I need to move people so can rule out the Highlander and other SUV’s. The Tocoma with a double cab looks to be the perfect choice for our needs. Also I can get it in a manual transmission though the automatic looks pretty good.

New home owner moving stuff? You might be better off with a pickup with a larger bed, the 5 and even 6 foot beds fill up fast

You’ll be making a lot of trips to lowes and the bed will be a godsend. If you off-road a lot save the money and get a 2wd. My truck has 192k hard miles you can’t go wrong with this platform just drive and enjoy it.
Welcome to being a home owner you ain’t gonna have money or time for truck mods for at least 3 years, 5 if your married.

Well that’s a good point. The moving stuff part may only last a few months and the truck will then be my daily driver hopefully for 10 or more years so I don’t need a full size pick up.

Dude you’re in CA I just noticed get the 4wd I lived in the HD for a couple of years I absolutely loved it having a 4wd truck. I had a full size then but was hands down most fun ever doing the Mojave trail, big bear, and Barstow to primm runs.

Get the short bed since they look nicer and your only going to move once hopefully. With the tailgate down you have extra space almost like the long bed. You just strap everything down. It be better if you can rent a trailer to move, then you can drive a trailer with your new truck. A 4x4 is always better because even if you don't offroad they're might be a day you will need it. Better to have it, then to not have it.

Maybe I should open a new thread in the proper forum but I wonder if there’s any advantage for a manual transmission in a truck when the 6 speed automatic tranny looks pretty good. And a 6 ft bed is a good advice and I can only get it with the automatic. I don’t really need 4WD but would be useful at times.

A lot of people love their manual transmission tacomas, I would switch to a manual if I could. They drive really sporty so manual will make it way more funner. I had a 2wd and it would suck when I would get stuck or I couldn't go up a hill. Now I drive with confidence. I even started offroading in the San Bernardino forest. I never knew there was so many offroad trails, where you can legally drive on. You can even camp anywhere for free. It's been the best since I got mine in 2019
