Today I drove for 12 straight hours from Ventura CA to Southern Oregon. From door to door it's 800 miles. I've made this trip at least 100 times over the years. Today I made a point to look for 3rd gens and was shocked to see only about 5, maybe 6 and I was watching both oncoming traffic and traffic I'd pass or that passed me (that never happens). There were probably 40 to 50 2nd gens, maybe a few 1st gens but not surprisingly there were 20 to 25 of the pre Tacoma Toyota pickups. My brother still has my old 85 with close to 300,000 miles on it that he uses for his hunting truck. I wonder if we are going to see a lot of 3rd gens still on the road in 30 years.

Where I live I see probably 50 different 3rd gens a day. There are lots of them here in the central valley CA.

Yeah that's really weird it's almost like they just started making 3rd gens a couple years ago and 2nd gens were in production for a decade... I wonder why there are so many more 2nd gens on the road. I'll have to investigate.

I mainly see 2nd Gens on the road and roughly an equal number of 1st and 3rd Gens.

See a few driving around, hoping they are TW members, but then see they don't have 4x4 or are driving a base model

Gen 2 is pretty iconic. I see lots of kids(younger folks) driving 3's around North San Diego county, but it will take a while before they start outnumbering 2's, if they ever do. And time will tell if the 3 even runs as long or as far. Heck, I still see a ton of 1's around. The younger generation will buy the 3 and that's great. It just means there will be a gen 4 to follow. But a lot of the older dudes like me will continue buying 2's as long as they are available, because just like gen 1, it's still a great truck.

Be :humble:, not everyone wants or needs what you have. And not everyone on TW mods their truck... I know, it's shocking. Probably going to take at least another 2 years before we start seeing 3rd gen numbers pan out. Hopefully the 3rd gen gets a "3.5 gen" upgrade earlier than what 2nd gens got and morphs into the truck we know it can be. As of now, 3rd gens can talk the talk, but need a little time to walk the walk ;)

Time will tell  TBH, I'm optimistic about the future of 3rd gens. I guess the only part at this point I can "hate" on is the auto tranny, weird seating position, and lack of torque. But there are fixes for everything.

I was going to recommend you read more of the forums and it will become clear that 99/100 3rd gens are in California but I see they have chimed in already and you are one of them!:D

I have taken it up to Big Bear, but the motorcycle hit most of the trails

Wont be wheeling until I get done with my upgrade addiction

But back on topic I mostly see 2nd gens around the south bay, there are a few 3rd gens I see on my way to work

And even a few Pros in my area
