I drove the TRD Pro Today...but that Market Adjustment?!

As luck would have it, I ended up at the top of a short list to purchase a TRD Pro - Concrete.

How typical is it for the dealership to tack on $3500+ premium and has anybody been able to get one at list price? I mean, is it 100% of the time that you are paying for the market adjustment? I have an incredibly hard time paying $44,842 + $3500 for a Taco. Especially when I got 5 great years out of my 2011 Taco 4dr LB Sport fully loaded at $30k!!

Is there any ammunition that I can use to talk my dealer down to list price? I will lose out on this vehicle tomorrow since its in such high demand.

I'm pissed but hey - I get it - supply and demand.

But that ride - oh - that ride was so smooth driving it around the dealership! Also disappointed that no premium audio package was available with the TRD Pro but thats ok.

I guess my next question is, what parts do I need to get a TRD Off Road to feel like the TRD Pro's ride? But I suppose that question is already being answered in another thread.

For that price you might as well look into a power wagon.

Fuel economy, resale value..??. I'm extremely toyota loyal. (Tacoma, Sienna, 4Runner, Prius, Lexus GS350). I want to go back to the Taco. Resale value was amazing. Thanks for the suggestion though

Demand is too high. We sold one at less than that over and presold our last two in allocation for $4,000 over msrp. I heard that some dealers on Texas are selling them at msrp if that helps.

Patience. The vehicle just came out and its limited supply. Wait a while then the dealer added market adjustment will go away. Leaving you with a still overpriced TRD Pro.

Thanks for the advice. The lease is up on my Lexus hence the urgency. I extended my lease 6 months to time it with the release of the 2017 models.

I just can't see the price on the new ones. Stopped by a dealer today just out of curiosity. They offered 15K for my 09 which I had to try pretty hard to keep from laughing. They wanted 40K for a 2017 TRD off road. Nice truck but a lot of gimmick crap on there as far as I'm concerned. For the cost difference I can do a lot to my 09 that's already paid off, and when you figure in the interest on the loan it just gets better.

Have you checked other dealerships? While market adjustments aren't pleasant, sometimes it's possible to find another dealership with a similar vehicle and a lower market adjustment.

I paid a little under sticker for mine. Are you in Cali? I see a lot of comments about Cali dealers & their mark ups.

Shop around at other dealerships. When I was looking for my wife's TRD Pro 4Runner, it took me a while to find a dealership that was selling it with no market adjustment.

Market adjustment isn't a thing. Its just dealers being shysters. Its all additional profit for the dealer/salesperson and has nothing to do with Toyota. I'd shop elsewhere and tell that dealer to pound sand.

My wife and I just bought a 2016 Mazda Miata Grand Touring. The Mazda dealer in our city had the same car on their lot for $7,000 more that what we paid at the Mazda dealership in the next city west of us. The breakdown from the Mazda dealership in our city was a $2,000 "Dealer Up-Charge" Sticker plus a $5,000 "Market Adjustment" Sticker tacked on to the side of the Mazda Window Sticker. We actually paid $500 below Mazda Sticker at the other dealership. The only difference between the two Miatas is that there's has a manual transmission and ours has an automatic transmission.

The only dealerships in our city that have the market adjustment stickers are part of the auto group that owns the Mazda dealership.

When demand is greater than supply, prices rise. It's simple macroeconomics at work. The dealers are no different than any other business model. It's also the same principle that keeps your resale value high.

The more people that insist on having the newest model as quickly as possible, the more "Market Adjustments" you will see. The crazy part is that there are buyers crazy enough to pay part or all of this.

Calculate the cost of fuel difference between the Tundra and the Tacoma. Use $4/gal for gas, and 5 years of time.

Bet the fuel 'penalty' is way less that the cost to get into a shiny primer colored Pro, and you'll still be driving a real truck.
