    Get something like a NOCO (GB50) Lithium Jump Starter. They have protection circuits.

    I would suspect even a dead battery would help to 'suppress' the reverse voltage. So hopefully your truck didnt see a full (-)13.8V

    Those Noco lithium jump packs are my go to now. They perform a polarity check and won't let you turn the charging on until it is correct. Bought it after fussing with cables in the dark and wet just like you and almost getting it wrong.

    Its an easy mistake too make,since the hook ups are reversed from most trucks.
