Finally got a Tacoma 4X4 SR5. Can't wait to start mods. Saving money trying to do it. Had a 2010 Mazda 3 but traded up. I'll post pics soon. It came from the dealer here in Texas with 17inch wheels and B.F. Goodrich Rugged Terrain A/T Tires. V6 of course, really moves. I think it accelerates faster than my 3 did. Says a lot considering the 3 was not stock. First 4X4 man sure is cool. It had 33 miles on it. Bought it Aug.11th. Now it has 800. Had to drive the "new" off a little.:burnrubber: I'm not running too hard though waiting until it breaks in.

Here are the pics. Wondering if these wheels are special? Can't find them on Toyota Parts web sites. They are 17s.

Thank you. Yes going to my uncles today and see if we can weld up a bumper/grille guard for it. He knows how to weld. Used to work as a welder for the oil field and built his own trailers and sold them. Can't wait to see how it turns out. Built a front bumper for a 88 Ford Ranger I had out of square tubing and metal strap for brackets. Strong enough I totaled a Caddy and drove off. I can work a grinder and sand so should come out good with a little Toyota black car paint. I'll be sure to post pics when we are done. Rather pay him to help me if we can pull it off. Keep money in the family. I see you are from Texas cool. I'll have to ask one day when the truck is done where the good roads are. I feel a road trip in my future.

Thank you. I have looked all over and can't find them. Dealer said they installed them to help sell the truck. Originals were plain 16s I guess. Thought they might be 2016 rims but I wont know until they come out later. I was thinking about waiting but I wrecked my Mazda 3 and fixed and traded. Glad they had a 4X4 because I was not going to trade for nothing less. I'll be keeping them since they might be hard to find. TRD has graphite colored 17s they say are limited but the center cap is different.

I'm so glad you guys are friendly. I appreciate it. I'm proud of it. I was upside down on my Mazda 3 so I did not get much of a deal. But with what I have read about reliability and durability I think I made a good decision to trade. My first truck since 1992 so I have had to get reused to being "up in the air" instead of down low. LOL.

This is a mock up of what I want to do. Hope someone chimes in.
    1. 2 pieces of square tubing to make the bottom 2 inch
    2. 1 piece of square tubing at the bottom of the grille expanded metal to protect the grille 1 or 1/2 tubing here.
    3. round tubing or smaller square tubing going around the headlights and fog lights
    4. Strap or flat steel (whatever it is called) connecting at 4 or 5 points. 2 going down behind the grille and connecting to stock aluminum bumper and 2 or 3 connecting at bottom where the pulling points are. The third one connecting in the middle if need be.
    5. Grind and paint with Rustoleum paint. Black.
And 2 inch going up the sides and across the top framing the grille forgot that part.

Trying to get some idea of what it would look like and follow the lines of the front end. Don't want to just throw something on there. I had something like this on a 88 Ford Ranger. I rolled and totaled it. Did not move the bumper even though it hit and stuck in the ground. Had a headache rack with rails going down the bed also made out of the same stuff. Bent the bed to hell when it hit but one could reuse the rack. Amazing if built right. It rolled 5 or 6 times. The sheriff said the rack and the way it was built saved my life. I can't do a rack like that because of the bed on this one. Would not be as strong if rolled on I don't think. LOL The sheriff ask me if I was speeding. I said no of course but I was doing about 70 to 75 when I started. Blew out all four tires when it landed on them. He said I was lucky. Very lucky. My glasses flew out my open side window and were stuck in the ground not broke. Got out and walked home about 2 miles to make the phone call. They showed up while I was pulling glass out of my arm. Yes another tough stupid Texan. LOL. But, I learned my lesson. Lucky I was the only one on the highway and no signs were hit. I was going to work. It was about 5 in the morning. I was a little young and stupid. I'm 53 now and wiser form my hard learned life lessons.
