true, not all Toyota stealerships are created equally, I have at least 5 Toyota stealerships in my area and have only found 1-2 that I will do any business with parts/repair but it means that I drive a little farther to use them but its worth it to me cause the majority are no good hustlers

I was thinking it was the new diff that has been having issues..... The 8.75 diff is the new one. I haven't really followed it that close, but I thought smitty was one having the howling and he is in an Offroad I think.

Yeah I could be wrong .... maybe the BOTH are having issues and it's something else and not the rear diff!!??

I lifted my truck with 5100s and 885 springs and not right away but not much after I noticed something was just not "right", just different feel to the drive-line. S I got under there and lubed it and put in the carrier bearing shims and my truck fells better than new and I'm getting better MPGs on top of it all.

Expensive equipment deserves the cheapest grease.

If OP works out a deal outside of lemon law, wait 6 months till a noob starts a thread here with "Got a great deal on a '16 Taco! But there's gremlins in my rear diff..."

+1 about staying level-headed, which is difficult when you have this much reason to be upset & frustrated.

Doesn't make sense to me that diffs get replaced and the replacement(s) are as bad or worse. Seems it would be prudent to look for some other cause.. but hey that's just my engineering background speaking to me.

Throwing money at a problem instead of troubleshooting... I see why there's not a cure yet, unless of course they are troubleshooting with the replacements that aren't working....???

Next thing up the line from the diff are the u-bolts and then carrier bearing...did anyone actually check the u-bolts... I mean actually articulate them while they were taken off for the diff change and check the carrier bearing for proper lube.... those are pretty common places to trouble shoot driveline issues.

I had brought my truck to the dealership about a rpm hang up. Me and the tech took a ride he tolled me do not no matter what any one else sez do not use the auto manual. Like trying to drive it like a stick when you have a auto tranny . He said it will no doubt kill the tranny for one!The other one he said no matter what do not shift into 4x4 on the fly stop put car in park and change the setting he said it will do something I forget his words but this was what I was told just my 2 cents

You can shift into 4hi while moving but 4lo you need to be stopped.

Yeah i get that is that particular techs opinion, but the owners manual and the little card in the sun visor differ with him.

I don't think it was a opinion from the tech. I think he went to special school for this 2016tacoma/4runner tranny set up and was giving me a bit of friendly advice on what to avoid for whatever reason but he knew something you and I don't and that because Toyota sent him to school for it and he said use you ECT PWR button I said how am I always suppose to remember that oh well if your shit seizes I gave you a lil tidbit some one gave me take it with a gran of salt

New design.... the other rears are the same ones they've been making.

I guess I might aught to look into it, but mine has been fine.

    UPDATE

My truck went to "rear diff replacement" for 3rd time i was driving a loaner (tundra), 3 days after i drop my truck the service manager call me and told me, your truck is ready. Whattt that fast?

He said. The regional representative was here and he said it normal characteristics of the truck. Whattttt...... come and pick up your truck is ready. I went to the dealership to have my truck ready.. it has grinding on low rpm (20-30mph) and loud houling noise between 40-60mph. All the time even gas pedal depressed or pressing. When i said loud its loud. Like having a vacuum stick to the rear diff. I was mad i took my truck to my home, i was looking online for a lawyer (lemon law) and today i call surprised call from the regional repre and he told me this "bring your truck on tuesday your getting a new diff" very suspicious in my opinion. I will keep the post updated..

Sorry for my broken English...i have a videos od the noise soon. Is howling loud.

    Thanks
