Ok so I took my truck in for a smog to transfer the title because apparently the dmv wants me to smog it and shoot em another $16. So I take the truck in and the guy tests it, and brings back the paperwork. Emissions: PASS. Visual: PASS. Functional: FAIL.

Guy tells me the MIL doesnt work. Im getting the thought the bulb was pulled out, because I havent ever thought about it, but Ive never seen the check engine light turn on. It should illuminate with key on engine off, and it doesnt.

I checked but did not find a thread about the dash panel. Its a 00 4cly 5 speed, AC, non tilt column, aftermarket performance tech stupid touch screen piece of junk radio. Donno what options matter here...Need to pull the dash panel off to access the bulb.

Thanks guys in advance for any help!

should be a couple screws around the gauge faces and then maybe another 4 screws that hold the actual cluster in place along with plugs. Shouldn't be that hard. I did it on a '98 Corolla and a '88 Toyota Pickup

    Hope it helps.

Here is a link to the factory service manual for you also. Worth having while working on the truck. Nice that it has service bulletins and also the wiring diagrams for systems at the bottom of it. Best of luck with your dash.
    Cheers

Yea man, i know this thread is long dead, but i justttttt now got around to pulling that shit apart and replacing the bulb. but had you not posted all that good stuff id be staring at the dash still in consfusion! You are my hero of the day!

The bulb was actually burnt out and in the wrong socket. I removed it all, and started trying different sockets in the cluster and bingo! It works and there are no codes thrown! Score.!
