Decided to forgo the plastidip route and dive right in and paint my wheels. I love the new look.

it's all about how well you do in prep, prep is 90% of the work, and you dont wanna shortcut especially with wheels cause they'll chip like crazy if you dont take the time to scuff them really good

look good! but you need to get sticky weights put on instead of the pound-ons on the outside.

Thanks guys. It is all about the prep. I was gonna tape off the toyota emblem, but realized they pop off from the backside if you're careful not to break the clips. Washed and scuffed them up with a scotch brite, then used some self etching primer (probably not necessary). I just used Krylon satin black for metal. If it chips, I will just touch up. I wanted to get them powder coated, but there isn't anyone nearby that does it. As for the tire size; 265/70r17.

so you scuff the crap out of them with some gritty sandpaper and then the paint goes on all slick-like?

it's definately worth it to me to put the time and effort in to making sure the wheels stay sweet looking for as long as possible. looks like OP did a pretty good job.

Well that's the key, you don't want a bunch of gouges and grooves in the wheel, but you want a lightly scuffed surface to promote adhesion. If your hesitant to do it that way get a bottle of etching primer to go over the wheel first.
