I got one heck of an oil change at the dealer, I'm not happy at all!

I had the opposite experience a couple of years ago:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/dealer-didnt-put-enough-oil-in-my-engine.313076/

It's been more than two years and 40k miles since then and it seems like a distant memory. The truck is fine and as far as I can tell there have been no ill effects from that situation. I did switch to using another Toyota dealer for some maintenance and repairs, not just because of that one situation but because I think the second dealer does a better job in general.

I checked everything again today before I went anywhere, oil level is now good, couldn't find a dipstick for the transmission. Being that it's still under Toyota careless, I never had reason to look, maybe there isn't one like a Saturn???

Here's the other thing...... I even commented to my wife that ever since having it serviced, my idle was rough, it made no sense. As of today and 4 quarts less oil, it's smooth again. It almost felt like the injectors were dirty and I noticed it the very same day and ever since the service was done! Maybe my crankshaft was laying in oil due to the overfull?

It'd better be in oil or you'll have bigger issues...

You still need to check the transmission fluid level....There won't be a dipstick but there is a procedure on this site for doing it.

It may be a little late for you, but in my case I made sure to have the service manager note it in my file and also had Toyota Corporate note it in their file in case something happened in the future.

Yeh checking the transmission oil is a bitch no simple dip stick. I drained my tranyfluid thinking it was the oil and put another 4 qts of oil in after having a few beers once. The truck actually ran fine on a 40 mile round trip from work.I noticed a lil slipping coming out of a dead stop and realized what i done. Everything was fine again until a few weeks passed then i felt a bad grinding one day leaving a parking lot. Traded that bitch in 2 weeks later for a 15.

That's the good thing about have the manual transmission - you'd really have to go out of your way to mistake the transmission drain plug for the engine oil drain plug. However, I bet someone somewhere has managed to do it.

Just look at the transmission drain plug. If its been removed recently you'll know it.

Yup because you will see a clean/oily spot around the plug where they wiped it which will stand out from the usual dirt on grime built up on the drain pan.

It's been about 1200 miles since the oil change, not sure if I can still tell if the trans plug was out. It sure didn't look like the oil drain plug was out and the dipstick was really stuck. I had to pull the dipstick and put some vacuum grease on the O ring to get it to go all the way back into the tube.

These dipsticks really suck, they are hard to read on a good day. I find it much easier to read accurately if you clean and paint the end of it white. With it being stainless and smooth, the oil tends to run down the stick making it hard to tell what the level really is. As soon as you paint it, there is no question where the level is, it will hold on that paint.

My dipstick gets stuck every so often but if I remove it regularly to read the oil level it tends not to get stuck. I think it's because crud and rust build up around the inside of the top of the tube near the yellow handle and jam the handle in place.

From the first time I changed the oil I have never been able to read the damned thing. For some reason there never seems to be a clear, clean line to indicate where the level is. Every time I pull the dipstick it always looks smeared. I just make sure I put in the required 5 1/2 quarts and don't worry about it.

On a related note, I just changed the oil today. Last time I had it done was in early February when I went out to Wisconsin to pick up a camper and made a stop at Jiffy Lube upon my arrival. I realized today those SOB's never changed the oil. I drained out about 4 quarts and it was far dirtier than I have ever seen it.

Did you have the dealer check trans level?

Mad Man, I took a picture of the level on the dipstick, then I measured each quart as I removed it. I called his direct line on Friday night and left him a message and asked him to call me.

Calico, paint the bottom of your dipstick and your world will be a better place. I used a white TexPen marker on mine and you can read it easy now. The problem is that the oil can't cling to the smooth stainless stick. Once it's painted the texture of the paint keeps the oil where it belongs and easy to read.

If you had more oil than what it is suppose to have, get underneath your truck and check gaskets. From experience, I've seen a similar situation and suddenly had a leak from a gasket behind the motor.

I know guys are complaining they cant read the level indicator for the motor oil . It was always far worse trying to read level indicators ( dipstick ) on the transmissions . Put a small bend on the dipstick and always check both sides as you are filling to the full line .
The small bend works as a drip line . You are essentially changing the angle where the fluid comes into contact with the dipstick .
It works good or at least has always worked for me
