Assessor came by, found ripples in the frame. I’ll know tomorrow morning whether it’s a total loss or if it’s going to the shop for further inspections.

I had a similar experience with USAA. Kept pricing my premium as a base model and adding a few hundred as fair for the package. I curse their name everytime I get a chance. Weeks of fighting and still don't feel like they treated me fair

If I had to do it over again. I would look into getting a lawyer

Honestly it’s worth less than I owe on it as it is, and I have total loss protection, they can pay whatever they want for the total, I’ll be covered.

It's sad you have to pay for loss protection for insurance to treat you fair

If you bed is not perfect flat,,, no tweaks..
If the bed struck the cab and rebounded..
You most likely have a bent frame!
Dont replace the frame unless you want a sand rail of a rig.
    Diminished value is a killer.

Demand from adjustor a print out of their comps.
My 16 was totaled but there was not a comparable in or, wa, id so adjustor did comps as if it were a house appraisal.
    State Farm treated me fairly.
    Couldnt be happier.
My truck retained its value 4 yrs after i had purchased it...

With the bed being composite it doesn't take much for the bedsides to hit the cab. Doesn't look totaled though

(USAA) ripped me off the same way. Kept pricing based on base model for a fully loaded TRD OR. I had to fight to get them up, but I still got about 5,000 less than I should have for my totaled truck. They pulled my rental car, so I had to rush out to buy a new truck.

They tried to pull my rental as well. I told them to SAFD and come tow it from my house because I was not dropping it off until they sent my check. They ended up advancing me like half the money overnight so I could buy a new car before we signed all the final paperwork. Unreal that the other parties insurance was ready to cut a very reasonable check 48 hours after the accident but the insurance I have paid into for 10+ years was a total PITA and tried to screw me.

Interesting read. When my 06 Tacoma was totaled back in 2009 my insurance treated me more than fair. I did my own research on the value of my 3 year old sport 4x4. The insurance came in over what I came up with. I know they eventually collected from the other drivers insurance. It was their fault.

Don't know if it played any part but I had been with that company for many years.

Do you mind sharing what value was fair and what your insurance was?

State Farm. I have everything bundled with them. Have since I was in my early 20's. They are not the cheapest but are not the most expensive for the coverage I carry. I have had a few claims in home and auto with them Never raised my rates due to the claims.

Value was high KBB private sell + misc. things like license fees, taxes paid, etc. The mileage on the Tacoma was low. I drive less than 7500 per year. The exact number I don't recall. It was back in 2009.

Why? Because there are valid reasons to rear end you that you will accept? Pciking their nose, getting a BJ, reading the newspaper, etc? I don't get it. They are at fault or not. The reason they are at fault is irrelevent.

I have had USAA for 30 years and always liked them. I know I pay a higher premium with them but accepted it as part of a higher quality of service. They have really stepped up and treated me well when I used them in the past. It has been quite a while since I have had a claim, and I have heard more and more horror stories about their customer service in recent years. I should probably shop around.

OP, sorry to hear about the truck. Glad to hear you are ok. Hopefully it all works out.

Dealing with someone at fault with USAA is different than being a customer with USAA just to let you know they are real shits to be on the other end of. Now that my financial situation has changed drastically, If i ever get the opportunity i plan on returning the favor.

The reason a driver is at fault IS relevant, I hate to disappoint you. Why do you think Law Enforcement will check your cell phone if YOU cause the accident.

I can't speak for other people, but if *I* find you damaged my vehicle, caused bodily injury, etc., because you were on your cell phone, "Pciking their nose, getting a BJ, reading the newspaper, etc"...I'll own you. The first thing my Attorney will perform is an asset search to see what you own, are entitled to (perhaps a trust, inheritance, etc.), etc. Watch and see if most people won't do the same.

In short, if you damage me due to negligence...you wont like the outcome.

    :)
