For the record I had a 2021 limited trd off road 4x4 crewmax with the 4x4 and short bed I got it used with 11k miles and sold it at 20k

I absolutely loved the v8 and it’s a perfect road car except for the horrible fuel economy but it drives like a Cadillac the v8 is so smooth
I did enjoy the real leather seats and found them to be more comfortable than my fake softtext 4Runner seats

unfortunately everything else sucks about the tundra, Toyota said he let’s just build a big ass truck to compete with the big 3 but let’s not really do anything, I never towed but I probably would get a diesel if I had to tow. What broke the camels back for me was its impracticality. 5.5 foot bed but the back cabin is unnecessarily big, if they shrank it and gave it a 6 foot bed would have been almost liveable. Yes they make a 6 foot bed with smaller cab but the slant is ugly as sin to me. Also the payload was less than my regular cab 4cylinder 4x4 Tacoma! (Per the factory door jam on both)

also too huge to do any kind of trails or off roading and no locker or even a trac and no I would never even fathom getting the 3rd gen tundra which is plagued with issues and they pump in fake v8 noises like seriously wtf

I really wanted to love my tundra but unfortunately the only pro is the v8 everything else had a lot of shortcomings and I personally wouldn’t recommend

also the fit and finish was falling apart at 11k miles the outside moulding around the doors were coming off around 15k miles I developed a rear main seal leak and noticed the headliner was falling off where the rear roll the window is and the resell is crap on the tundra compared to the Tacoma

    Thank you for your post.

    I agree with you 90%
When I was looking for a vehicle, I was torn by the Tacoma and the Tundra.
Family wanted the Tundra, but I could not justify the operational cost of fuel here in Canada, the size for both off-road and tight downtown parkades, and price for parts for the V8 power plant/ drive line is expensive.

The Tundra to me at least, looked like a sub-par rival to Ford and GM’s lineup not overall, but in a few key aspects.

I understand, and don't blame you, but this is REALLY weak.

Never owned a Tundra, but I bought a F150 with the 5.5' bed in 2002. I THOUGHT it would be a handicap compared to my older trucks with 6.5' beds. I traded it for an even smaller 5' bed Tacoma in 2007 which I still own and added a 2014 F150 4X4 crew cab later. In the last 22 years I've yet to find anything I could not haul in my 5.5' beds where another 6"-12" would help. I can easily transport 12' lumber and kayaks in the 5.5' bed. With the tailgate down and my bed extender folded out I'm a couple of inches shy of 8'. The next size up in lumber is 16', you can't haul that in either a 5.5' or 6.5' bed. Even an 8' bed would be cutting it close with 16' lumber.

I knew Tacoma was a great truck, but never could justify the smaller truck until 2007 when my youngest moved out. Prior to that I needed the size. The Tacoma did great until I had 3 grandkids (now 6), after that I really appreciated the massive rear seat of my F150.

But... The Tundra never appealed to me, mostly styling. That's why I chose Ford for a full size truck. Fuel mileage; My Tacoma gets exactly 1 mpg better than my Ford. Tundra gets about 1 mpg worse than Ford, so about 2 mpg worse than Tacoma. If you drive 1000 miles a Tundra will burn about 5 more gallons of gas than a Tacoma. That does add up, about 75-100 gallons more per year. But if you're going to drive a truck you have to account for fuel. A Tundra at 18 mpg isn't really that much worse than Tacoma at 20. If you're worried about the price of fuel they make cars that get 40 mpg.

Then wtf didn't you buy a double cab?

Your excuses are pathetic. As an owner of both Tacomas and 2nd gen Tundras, your complaints don't compute.

I tow with both...a lot. the Tundras tow loads pretty damn good. The tacomas tow small trailers just fine.

If you've never towed with the tundra, then you really don't have a dog in the hunt.

I get it, some things piss you off and bitching helps, it's fine.

Hope you find something that " ticks all the boxes".

    Good luck.

Sorry you bought a truck with issues but why do you think the previous owner was selling a 2 year old truck with 11k miles?

not to be that guy but its 5.6 foot(67.2 inch) bed. Yes still pretty short, but still usable. And its pretty wide and tall at least.

I wouldn't necessarily be averse to another foot of bed length.

My neighbour has one. I've definitely considered asking if he wants to trade.
