This sucks for the OP, but let's not assume scam right off the bat.

To hit up his Facebook profile, business's facebook profile, LinkedIn, etc before any insight is shed on this debacle is irresponsible IMO.

The fact that all his contact information is out there, including home address, when he has a daughter is also disturbing to me as a father.

OP I wish you luck with the dispute and if it indeed turns out to be an attempted scam, then you have two choices IMO: Go about it like a mature adult, get your money back from Paypal, learn from the experience and move on. Make it known on the internet that he tried scamming you, etc.

Physically confronting him is not a viable option IMO.

Holy shit. This is some dedication. The dude doesn't seem like a bad guy. Hopefully it gets resolved soon.

The fact is that he put all of this on the net. He is clearly scamming the OP, whether it was his initial intention or not. It takes 5 minutes to mail a package that you have taken the time to collect on, and a whopping 1 minute to respond to a known responsibility if not.

IMO, the seller deserves any contact that is made. Hopefully he's not a real con man. Most online con men will scam for small amounts because of people like you that wouldn't do anything about it and call it a lesson learned.

If it was $5,000, would it be different to you? Not to me...I work hard for my money and appreciate every dollar.

Like I said, it sucks for the OP and if it's an attempt at a scam then the seller deserves to have his reputation tarnished. The dollar amount has no relevance IMO.

But to claim you know what this guy's intent is/was is very premature IMO.

We have no idea what's going on in the guy's life.

I remember a thread a few years back involving a very reputable and good poster on this board (poster A). Poster A sold an item and lost complete touch with the member who bought it before the goods were shipped. A total shitstorm like this ensued unbeknownst to Poster A and when he finally got back in touch he informed us he had to unexpectedly be by his grandfather's side who was dying and eventually passed. Then the funeral, etc...

He apologized profusely for being out of touch but clearly at that point life takes precedent over selling a $40 item on TW.

    At least IMO.

I'm a skeptic of the above story. I think the guy used the "dying relative" excuse as a way to curry pity for being a slacker or deadbeat. I see it all the time in the online sales biz, and used to run into this type of excuse ALL the time when I was doing high volumes of buying on eBay back in the day.

Your skepticism is justified, but I can reassure you Poster A wasn't lying or making an excuse.

    He's a really good guy.
