I mean to tow readily like the 6000 or whatever lbs it is rated for. I’m saying pull up the mountains easier like the full sizes.. we’re not taking about a 4 cylinder.. your comparing a 500cc to a 1000 cc btw

There is definitely talk that it may be coming, but the more talk saying it will never come. Who the hell knows! We will see.

I'm not sure if a supercharger is going to give you the pulling power of a big vee-eight motor.

As for towing in the hills, yes the taco can do that. I found it handles the altitude with ease. Just don't ask it to go very fast when doing so.

Yep sure is. The 3.5L TT in my F150 is...oh wait...a 3.5L engine. And while it's a Ferd and it will eventually let me down, holy crap it's got power for days and cost about the same as my 4Runner.

Honestly, it's just about saving money to put it elsewhere and engine reliability. Toyota has never made high performance engines (2JZ excluded) for their normal "fleet." That's ok, that's not why we buy them. We buy durable, reliable vehicles.

Except the powertrain in the 3rd Gen was so boring. So boring. Sooooo boring....

Still looked good parked tho :)

It's kinda like this... Why is it that fast cars, Porsche for example aren't the ones weaving through traffic and it's usually a Honda that's louder than it can go fast. It's because the Porsche can. Sometimes you don't need a reason other than because you can.
What do I need a turbo for? Why not, because I can... I'm not racing traffic lights, I have no plans to tow a trailer, but I CAN if I want to being in a mid-size truck that I like because I will never settle for a Chevy or Ford

IMO supercharging never made any sense for 3rd gen, but Turbo makes more sense.

If anyone has been following OVTune's turbo thread it looks like that is going to happen. It might be a single turbo know, but i'm on board either way.

You knowingly bought a truck that didn’t perform to your standards, that’s your fault not the trucks. These trucks have plenty of power and have no problem towing within the trucks ratings. You are just asking more of a truck that wasn’t designed to do what you want it to do. You have options though, buy a full size or just deal with it.

    guys,

The new factory tune really helps this engine. I have a Manual, and all my complaints about the engine were resolved by the tune.

People have said the tune goes away after 2000 miles, but I drove up a few mountains yesterday and the engine held speed in 6th and passed easily in 5th at 65mph. I wasn't able to do this with the old factory tune.

It's free and it's more reliable than running supercharger.

If you haven't done that, I highly recommend doing it.

OP. The Atkinson’s cycle engine would be hard to supercharge and cost prohibitive

Ummmmm, what factory tune? I went in about a month ago, and they showed an update for my truck, but when they pulled the details up , it was Rev2, and the Manuals were removed from it. Is there a new update I don't know about?

I am so confused at this thinking.

I want a mid size truck because I live in a busy area. But that truck should preform like a full size?

Is this one of those have your cake and eat it too type things?

It's just crazy to ask for more torque and horsepower...right?

No I don't think it's crazy at all.

Maybe so.. I didn’t say I want it to do everything a full size does.. I love how people twist words.. let me be more specific.. I like the size of my truck because of confined spaces but I would like a little more power. I don’t see why so many people have a hang up with this. I never said it should perform in every aspect as a full size or that I don’t like the truck at all. But it would be nice with a little more power is all I was getting at and I thought supercharging it would help with that or turbo.. and wouldn’t hurt fuel economy either..

I’ve seen people say this before, but I have not heard why. Is the concern with compressor stall (compressor surge) while in Atkins mode? While on high boost you wouldn’t be in Atkins. If there is some cross over...
    a. You can tune full Otto
    b. You can use a bypass to limit boost while in Atkins mode.
    c. See Miller Cycle Engines Mazda Millenia

I am hoping as Matt mentioned, once handheld tuners are available to Magnuson we’ll see some movement. I am not holding my breath.
