but here I am. I've researched, driven, studied, discussed, driven everyone I know crazy trying to figure out the right answer. The good news is I'll probably be happy either way. I'm looking at a 2022 Tacoma 6MT with 1500 miles (pretty much new), loveeeee the 6 speed, love the apple car play, nimbleness, etc. And I love that it's a truck I can have forever as it's essentially new. I hate that it might be driven down in value soon with the release of the 4th gen and if I'm being honest, I hate buying something for a bunch of money and then having the "old" bodystyle. That said, if the new one looks like the Tundra, it's not my cup of tea. And theres no guarantees of the 6mt in the 4th gen.

On the other hand, love a 2014 Crew Max Tundra 1794 with 86k miles. I have 4 kids (although my vehicle is not the family cruiser, like, ever), we're very tall people so i'm comfortable, but, there will be a time where my kids may not fit great in that Tacoma back seat, LOVE the back window going down, the 1794 interior, etc. It's automatic, obviously, I dont love that, and again, old bodystyle. I dont ever tow so thats no concern.

Tacoma is new. Tundra is used but big. Shit.

    Help.

You didn’t mention price. If the price is similar, the Taco is basically brand new, compared to an 8 year old Tundra.

    Or just buy a Prius.

If you can afford the gas, keep the Tundra.
Then again, that’s me. You do what to want. What ever makes you happy.

You can either purchase the 2022 with many of the issues resolved or wait for the next generation and struggle through all of those issues- but you will love the body, lol.

6MT Tacoma takes it for me... similar family situation, similar trucks to choose from. I decided I'm getting a well-taken-care-of Sienna this summer for daddywagoning and keeping the Tacoma until somebody t-bones it

I should clarify, I dont have the Tundra either. I'm buying one or the other, 2022 Tacoma, 2014 1794 Tundra.

4 doesn’t fit very well, all the way to hardly at all in a Tacoma, 4 very tall people is a pass.

Do you absolutely want a 6MT in a smaller and more fun package for playing in the dirt?

If not, stick with the Tundra. I don't care about resale value and definitely don't care how the upcoming Tacoma will affect mine. If I knew it would have a V6 with a 6MT I would've happily waited.

Maverick or Ridgeline. Ridgeline sounds like a better fit.

I'd want to know why someone is dumping a 1500 mile year-old truck. Did they pull a bonehead move and want to unload their mistake? Even if that's not the case, I doubt you're getting a deal to make it worth buying used compared to buying new. But, it's your money, buy what you want. I seriously doubt they're going to take a big value hit when the '24s are released- this is one of the strong arguments to buy any Tacoma. In fact, if there are enough people that hate the '24s (just look at all the gripes around here by people who can't handle progress and change) it may actually make a late model 3rd gen hold an even better value for some time. At the end of the day, it's all up to the market, and nobody here has a crystal ball.

Tacoma is not the best for a big family. That said I wouldn’t buy an almost 10 year old Tundra unless it was pretty cheap.

Love my 23 Tacoma. As mentioned, the 2022 has many issues resolved, less miles, newer tech, and a 6 speed. I'm biased, but if you have sat in the tacoma being on the tall side and it does not bug you, then why not if it is not going to be the family vehicle.

He’s got four kids. They’re taking a second vehicle either way. Cool people ride in the Taco and don’t complain like babies about their knees being cramped. Strongest bladder determines rest stops.

Don’t you all know these things?!

Maybe somebody offered more than what they paid. I know I can easily sell mine for what I paid.

In which case it wouldn't be a great deal as a used vehicle, would it?

Very fair point, I'd agree and have questions at a dealership. I shouldve added this is a buddies (thats a stretch, but, neither here nor there) , he got it as a toy and just doesnt really use it at all. Has a SUV for everyday, a Jeep for a toy and hauls with his 3500.

This. I went from a Tundra to a Tacoma so I essentially won't have people wanting me to take them places. To me, our trucks are good for two people all day but 4 people only a half hour.
They are really apples and oranges tho. Tundra is way big and thirsty and Tacoma is just right.
