    Oh look, another mod....
Your concerns are very justified. If you want to mitigate the issues you mentioned, watch this video:

I like the push start. I don’t worry about thieves since I park inside my gated house. However, if you live in shady places, you could install a kill switch and bing bang boom, it’s safer I guess.

I mean I hope your 40K truck is insured. Who cares if a thief goes to all the trouble of catching your signal and stealing your rig. I think the probability of this is on par with getting bit by a shark at the beach.

Til the battery in the keypad dies. I got the pleasure of replacing a door when the keypad at my wife's office died and she got pissed and went she hulk instead of waiting 40 minutes for me to drive the spare brass key over... good times...

Pretty simple to mitigate that with a hidden locked key on the property, or just stay on top of changing the batteries.

I have a keypad on one of the back doors for emergencies and stuff. When the batteries start running down it starts beeping obnoxiously. Its pretty much my fault if I ignore that.

Actually, my Taco's instrument panel told me that the battery level in the fob was weak... I never got obnoxious beeps.

Yeah, hers gave no indication like that and I had just replaced the battery with a "fresh" out of the package just 2 months prior. Hiding a spare key outside kind of negates the security aspect of having the keypad and or a lock in general.

Deadbolt keypad for houses, because that side convo was totally on topic. :cookiemonster::cookiemonster:

The fob doesnt beep, youre right. Its supposed to flash the dash warning, but I've yet to replace a battery on my 2018. :anonymous:

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
    @ktb556:
    Now that's just plain laziness.
This works on my '21 TRD OR, although it's a bit longer than 10-13 seconds. Doors must be closed.
Tested that with my bride's Camry. The fob can be in the house and one can still get into the vehicle and start it. Haven't tested to see what the maximum range is. We've just developed the habit of shutting off the fob (see below) when we know we'll be leaving the vehicle for any length of time. If thieves can't catch the fob's RF signal, then it's more difficult for them to access the vehicle and start it. However, nothing is absolutely foolproof.
In the end, it is what it is. Unless you want to spend a lot of time & money to change it, deal with it, get used to it.

If you're worried about your fob at home just turn it off.

for some reason i assumed the truck needed the key fob to be in the cab to be operated, but i found out that's not the case when i left it in my pocket at the car wash and it was still running when it came through. once it's started with the fob, it doesn't need it anymore to run... which at first seems like a swing and a miss in terms of security. but i guess that's by design in case the battery runs out while you are driving? i couldn't really find any definitive explanation in the manual

I think you nailed it. In case the fob dies or it loses communication due to malfunction or whatever, it could be really unsafe to shut off while driving.

I think everything I have driven with PTS did not seem like it had a column lock. Toyotas or the Tacoma could be different.

How do you unlock the column on PST? Turn the wheel while pushing PST?

Locking the column is not important IMO, no loss if I can't lock the column.

I'm pretty sure all cars are required to have the lock. There's a small motor that operates the lock. You can hear it when you get in the truck.

I remember reading a post not too long ago about Jeep deleting the column lock on the Wranglers due to all the flat towed Wranglers and the complaint by the owners of having to leave the keys in the ignition when flat towing.
