I'm sure there is another post out there I just cant find it. But I just picked up my trd sport! I'm freaking excited!! But, I have done coilovers on all my other trucks. So are coilovers better then just spacers?? Wanting to go 2 inch to maybe 2.5. Any suggestions? Thank yall for yalls time!

    Mods? Yes.
yes. spacer lifts are the bottom of the barrel unless you count spring extenders/stretchers

Coilovers offer a lot more in terms of performance, adjustability, cool factor... they have it all. Spacers are just.... spacers. Congrats on the truck and welcome.

if you have 4x4, stick to 2” of lift or less, better in the long run.

Well... you wont get coilovers for under 500. You could get Bilstein 6112s for about 700-750 which are really good, but some say they get stiff with larger lifts, that also doesnt include the rear shocks. Matching rears are 5160s which run about 330-350 for a set, or you could use 5100 rears for about 150 for a set. You could alternatively just do the full Bilstein 5100s for under 500, more like 400. Use your stock coils and put them on the new front shocks, and that will include the rears as well. They are popular and provide lift on a budget.

There are other brands out there, like OME and Eibach, but I do not personally have any experience with those kits. Someone is doing a sale on Eibach right now as well, but I do not remember where I saw it

You won’t find coilovers for $500 maybe $500 each. Otherwise you can look into strut options like Bilstein.

Bilsteins 5100’s is a great budget lift. Great ride. No complaints. Research is key. Good luck

I'm running 5100s on factory coilovers on my 04, ran me like 300 I think. But I didnt know if there was a product out there I was missing. Like a set up that is the bee's knees for the 3rd gen.

Not much has really changed suspension-wise between 1st gen Tacomas and 3rd gens. Both IFS.

If you like 5100s on your 04 then you'll like them on your new truck (they aren't interchangable FYI). With a $500 budget that's the best option you have anyhow

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
Well that was a useless video. "Don't use a spacer because it is bad, instead use a coil over kit because it will magically not do any of the bad things to the steering or CVs even though the geometry at the CV and the steering box are identical". The only right thing was that using an aftermarket UCA will avoid having the coil or ball joint rub. Spacer = lift the same amount but does not address loss of suspension travel nor UCA rub. Long-travel coilovers = lift the same amount but addresses loss of suspension travel but not UCA rub. New UCA can be used on either lift option. Ride quality? Way different between the two lift options. So if you want a cheap lift that works, go with the spacers front & rear for under $300 total. Then as you can afford to do a better solution first replace the UCAs with high quality ones, then you will want to put on new coilovers and rear shocks. Somewhere in the middle was bumper, skids, sliders, winch, wheels, tires, everything in the cheap/free mods section, all the 3rd gen mods tips & tricks, and your favorite badges.
