    I have a 1998 Tacoma 2.4l 2wd. 89k miles. 5 spd manual.

I have started having acceleration problems with my truck. It starts well. Idles well. No check engine light. When I drive it, it sometimes lags, sputters, doesn't respond well.

I think it might be a fuel filter or a fuel pump, but, not sure.

Do you have any suggestions? Any ideas?

Is this a common problem? Easy fix?

    Thank you in advance.

The computer should be picking up something... it could go on briefly and then turn off after corrective measures. Hook it up and check for codes anyway, see what it gives. Otherwise, have there been any changes in your normal usage of the truck such as towing/idling, sitting for several days, baking in the sun, etc? These conditions can sometimes affect the evap system (heat/cold) or fuel quality (stale). When were the plugs changed last? Also check the ignition components for wear, damage, or water/condensation. Not sure if this is common with the first gen 2.4. Good luck.
