    The PO kept good records.

I just had mine checked by the dealer, and I know they would have loved to sell me a new pair, but they were fine. Get them checked, or replace them for peace of mind.

cam seals, crank seal, oil cooler hose, heater hoses, any damn hose that has coolant running through it, vacuum hoses, valve cover gaskets and grommets, those half circle end cap seals that are under the valve cover, bushings, all of them, 4wd conversion for off main roads to hide the dead bodies you'll be digging graves for, truck lift, to ensure the roads you go on cannot be taken with regular cars to hide said dead bodies, wheel bearings, after hauling a bunch of dead bodies shit can go any day

If the LBJ recall was done then they're probably still good if the truck hasn't been beaten up off-road or anything. Check the boots on them to see if they're leaking or not.

If the timing belt hasn't been done, I'd make that a priority. The 3.4l is a non-interference engine, so t-belt failure shouldn't be catastrophic, but it will leave you stranded.

Thanks for the advice, yea this truck was babied, I doubt it ever really went off-road until I got my hands on it. So the joints are probably still "good" but I'll be investigating them for peace of mind.

Thought "Dime a dozen" meant they were common/cheap. They seem to be the opposite of that.

Why such a low suspension? I was looking at going 3"-6" but have no idea what I'm doing so any reasoning I have is purely ignorance. :bananadead:

Talk to @gunny1005 about OEM parts including LBJ's. You get a TW discount, free shipping and no tax. I bought some LBJ's from him and they were the best price I could find. Plus it's here on TW.

Nice trip. I didn't realize you could get that far from a road in that part of our country.

Yea, Texas is lacking in well known 4x4 spots for some reason.

Really don't think there is a need for a lift if all he is doing is moderate wheeling and camping/fishing. A stock Taco is very capable. Just throw on some good tires and save your money for some fishing/camping accessories. If you plan on wheeling it harder than "moderate", get some sliders and a decent skid plate. I've seen stock Tacos that were armored do VERY well off road with stock size or 32" tires.

I don't think any of this is necessary at this mileage. Timing belt maybe. Ball joints for sure. Maybe spark plugs and wires. That's about it. You could throw all the money in the world at a truck, but you really don't need to do that as the parts will last way longer. If you keep the engine bay cleaned once a year I could expect the hoses to last 300k easy. I've got 180k on my truck and all of the factory hoses look just fine.

For those of you saying the TB needs to be replaced at 90k, I made a thread asking how long people have gone on a timing belt, most said you could easily do 150k.

the hoses on my tacoma, 196k miles, are exploding. I'm not even sure why but I'm getting them replaced.

edit: probably could go 150k on the TB but just plan ahead with maintenance and get it all done while you're in there.

Going through some nasty stuff on the 3.4L....really nasty stuff.
