I have an impulse control problem.

For about a month I have been shopping for a Tacoma. I was first looking for a black TRD PRO manual. none were available in my area. I started to look for a used 2020 and up so I could get a power driver seat. I found an Army green TRD Pro manual at Carmax in Riverside. I paid $900 to have it shipped to the carmax in Beaverton OR and it will get here on the 30th of may. Purchase price is 51,998. A week goes by and I am thinking I really want a lunar rock more than the army green. Yesterday I found a Lunar Rock TRD pro manual at a Carmax in Houston texas for $50,998 and after a short amount of discussion and surprising support of my girlfriend she said I should get that one.
So I paid $1999 to have it shipped to the Beaverton OR Carmax. It arrives June 5th.

TLDR:

I can buy a 2020 trd pro manual in army green and a 2021 trd pro manual in lunar rock. I think my GF is hoping that one will be for her. I am thinking I should buy them both and put them each up for $55k and see which one sells first.

Or am I high here.

I joined back in 2008 when I was a sales man at a Toyota in Madison WI. When I quit there, I stopped coming around. Now that I am shopping for a Tacoma I figured it would be a good time to stop in.

Once I saw the Lunar rock was available for $1000 less than the Army green I justified paying the shipping by accepting the $900 as a loss. I would have bought the lunar rock here if it were $54k. I have the funds to buy both outright. I am trying to get an idea of how rare and in demand these trucks are given the trim, color, and transmission. I have only seen 4 of them across the country in the last 6 weeks and two of them are on their way here.

 

Do you want to buy my pro for 54k? Potential $1,000 profit to get some of that shipping back. I paid 46 in November. You might be high. Also, hello fellow Beavertonian. You have two feet, drive them both.

 

No, there are plenty of white trd pros out there.

Black white and gray are colors available in at least the last 3 years and will likely continue to be. LR and AG were only in 2021 and 2020 on the trd pro. And WI destroyed a part of my soul.

Agreed, your thread title is very accurate - you have an impulse problem.

I guess you make out ok if you sell the "unwanted" truck for $55k - $52 paid = $3k "profit"
minus the $2900 you paid to ship both trucks.
= $100 left over
That is IF you get your asking price, and all the hassle associated with selling the extra truck

Hell of a gamble, but not my money. Seems you're already sunk given you paid to ship both trucks

In the end - you only live once - get what you want if you can

 

Unless you’re a millionaire what an absolutely horrible use of cash money that would be.
Even if you are a millionaire, finance at least one if not both, I’m sure millionaires get great rates, and put that 100g’s to work making more money.

I’m with @Cereal_killer on this one. Just pick one and use your mountains of cash for something more profitable.

 

Truck prices are already dropping with what the stock market has done the last 2 weeks. Another 6-12 months you will see a stupid amount of trucks for sale for much less then what people overpaid for them the last 2 years. If you can wait, I would wait and save 1000s compared to current prices.

 

A problem may be letting the girlfriend be part of the decision process. What if she is just along to work Mr Moneybags?

And being able to buy both outright doesnt mean you should.

I’m sitting in a similar situation on deciding between a Lexus ES300h and a Camry hybrid. Luckily for me both are free to my local carmax so… why buy two cars at once?
