So I hate imperfections in my windows and windshield. I can’t stand smudges or fog/haze on the inside, spots and dirt and grime on the outside. Even the residual left on the areas where wipers don’t reach bothers me after even a day after it’s done raining. Lately I have been going through getting new wipers. My stock pair finally started to fray at the ends. I have always been a fan of Bosch. I’ve used them on several different cars with amazing results and longevity. So of course I went with them again. But to much dismay, I have less than ideal performance this go around. Within the first couple weeks the wipers were hopping. Still clearing the water off smoothly but hopping in the process which drives me insane!! Got a replacement set free of charge from the store and the same happened almost instantly. I use and have always used in all the other cars the green rainx washer fluid so I’ve ruled that out. The fluid seemed to help lubricate the wipers a little but only while constantly spraying. Went and got another set, different line of Bosch and they had similar issues but not as noticeable. Only the end on the inner sweep motion hops after a short break in period(which was worse at first but I gave tons of break in opportunity on the previous pairs too). The hop is mild and inaudible now but still visible and annoying. Anyone have tips or similar experience?? By the third pair I liberally cleaned the glass to possibly remove any imperfections that might be obstructing smooth flow and sweeps of the wipers. Still the mild inner arch vibration or hop

Been debating on that regardless of the wiper issues. Also was curious about the ultra hydrophobic product rustoleum makes if it could be applied to glass etc?
Any suggestions on ceramic coating otherwise. See tons of different ones come across my fb and ig and each seems to think it’s the greatest since slice bread.

I have ceramic pro 9h on mine. Cleaning is easy and water just beads right off. I only had Id done cuz my paint is also coated.

Otherwise if not that route just use a DA polisher and some glass polisher and go to town and use your favorite wax/sealant. I use invisible glass to clean all my windows in between washes. This is what I do with my Audi windshield that is not coated.

Had Bosch wipers for 2 years.

Theyve always hopped. The drivers side bottom when vertical but only the last 1/4 of the arm swing.

I too have had issues on my vehicles in the past. I always go back and use OEM blades. My Suburban required OEM blades, nothing aftermarket worked. My Tacoma only has a few thousand miles and has I have only been in the rain a few times but the factory bladed don't hop. I have always used a little lacquer thinner on a rag and cleaned off the blade, this might help your blades. I have used a product called glass wax, had a can for years and I have yet to find another can and even tried google to find it. A little of it goes on when it gets a fresh coat of wax.

I think the hopping is due to crap on the windshield that we don't see. I've had good luck with using 0000 steel wool to clean the outside of the windshield. It seemed to stop the hop until it needed cleaning again. It seemed to last at least 6 months.

Actually, mine started hopping again. The next dry day, I'll clean it again.

There is a glass guy on here.
I remember a thread with him discussing all of what to use and not to. Wish I could think of it, but it's been years.

    Didn't see that one coming...

Anyone have a easy way to get those water spots off the glass? My Taco is less than a week old and I guess it got them sitting on the dealer lot.

Rain-X on the windshield. Not the washer fluid (though I use that too to keep the application 'topped off'), but the actual rub on/buff off concentrated stuff in the yellow bottle. Keeps the wipers from chattering at low speed, and at anything faster than 30-35mph the wind just rolls the water off so you don't need to bother with the wipers at all.

Wipers can't chatter if they aren't running

I recently purchased PIAA Silicon Wipers, they seem to work quite well.

I recently replaced my OEM blades with Trico Onyx, their top of the line blade. They were on sale. They are terrible! Aside from chattering in a light rain, the drivers side does the strangest thing. In any decent rain the blade gets to the far left side of the windshield and then it pulls a sheet of water about a third of the way back across the stroke of the wiper! It must be a draft related issue, it's worse at higher speeds. I'll be going back to OEM asap.

I’d follow the ‘vette cleaning video mention towards the top with clay bar after spraying etc. Really about the only thing that’ll get those “stained” on water spots or you’ll scrub a hole in ur paint or glass trying.

And I don’t have a problem with water beading and still being able to see, Especially at speed bc it does run up and off mostly. But in town I wipe more and they just hop.
I’ve deep cleaned like mentioned above and waxed the glass. Might be time to redo it but the oe blades didn’t hop ever. I only replaced them after almost 2 years bc the ends frayed

When mine started to fray, I replaced with the Toyota Sightline and they are pretty solid imho. Quiet, work a bit better than my stock ones did new and flex really well to the curvature of the windshield. Had them on for 3-4 months now and they are just like new

take a razor blade and clean your windshield with a glass cleaner as lubricant. you'll hear and feel all the crap the wipers are dragging against. Hold the blade at a pretty shallow angle as you don't want to gouge the glass.

wipe down with a waffle weave microfiber.

next get a clay bar with a water based lubricant and clay bar the windshield. again wipe down with the a new waffle weave microfiber.

next get your favorite paint sealer. not rain x or even wax, it needs to be a sealant and apply it lightly and buff with a standard soft microfiber. if you can do this facing the sun to find haze smears. buff and buff and buff until clear.

lastly, remove and clean the wiper blades with your glass cleaner. making sure they are not damaged.

the sealant will let water roll off at speed and last much longer than rain x or wax. each time you use your wipers you're wiping off the wax/rain x and clogging the wiper blade up.

do this twice a year usually after winter and in the early fall.

edit: video on how to use the razor blade technique

How about polishing the glass with a Porter Cable after the clay bar?
