I have literally no idea why this sound is occurring. Possible piston slap?

    few things here and there.
So long story short I’ve had this truck now about 39 days. I never really noticed the sound until a few weeks back. It does not seem to negatively impact anything. Just unsure what I’m hearing or if I should be considered?

Any info is welcome. Someone told me it could be piston slap, but I honestly would like y’all’s input. Sorry if this is not the correct location to post this. Any help is welcome.

Sound's like the normal 4.0L V6 tick, everyone calls it the "taco tick" on here. Mine has ticked pretty much since it was new, got 59k on it now.

See the pistons (higher frequency) def isn’t something I’m worried about. It’s the lower clunkier sound that just made me a bit nervous haha. I find myself turning down the radio when another gen 2 is nearby so I can listen and observe.

If it's the ticking you're hearing, that sounds normal. There is a mod on the forums that uses a rubber washer to address a certain type of ticking - but it's not a fix for everyone.

If it's not the ticking, maybe try recording again with no stereo and see if accelerating changes the noise at all.

Yeah, this was almost impromptu. So sorry about the radio.

I more or less notice it when I’m in park. I don’t believe it occurs in drive, but maybe? When it does occur it happens when warm as well.

That’s not only the Tacoma tick I hear. That doesn’t sound good at all.

Check oil level. You might need a new oil pump. I can hear the sound in the video, that's not the taco tick.

oil level is fine. I hear it mainly near the cat, it’s weird.

Tap on the converter with a rubber mallet and see if clanks or makes noise inside.. the catalyst material may be separating from the wall of the exhaust pipe and rattling around

Sounds like a diesel! I vote something with your oil. Open your oil filter and inspectthe filter media for metal. Sounds like it's lacking oil to me. I had an oil pump failure on a 4.0 which lead to a couple blown rod bearings. This is what the oil pan looked like after

Sounds like mine since new and it has 165k miles. I’ve heard some say it’s noisy injectors.

If you hear it at the cat.. something is probably loose there..try pushing on it to isolate the rattle.. use a hammer handle or something so you don't get burned..
