I have no idea what package or sub model my truck is

I have a 2006 Tacoma that I assumed was a prerunner trd ,but when I asked the dealership and they told me it was a base model with no packages. I was highly confused because I have leather seats and 6lug wheels. I called a second dealership and they told me it was a base model with the sr5 package, which sounds a bit more correct, but it still doesn’t quite add up because of the leather seats and I have 6 lugs instead of 5. I find it highly unlikely that the previous owner would go through all the trouble to change the seats and the wheels from 5lugs to 6. As far as I understand only prerunner and 4x4 have a 6lug pattern. Now my question is can anyone help me tell what package and sub model my Tacoma is? Is there any other things I can look for to tell if it’s a prerunner other than the lugs and seats? Any help or feedback will be much appreciated, thank you.

If you are able to post some pics of the interior and exterior that would help and someone could likely tell you what you’ve got.

you can also go to toyotaowners.com and register and add your vin and look at the build information

    welcome aboard!

I’m not sure if this helps. If not just let me know what else to take a picture of.

Looks like you have an SR5 with a color matched grille, sport hood, and plasti dipped or painted rear bumper.

the sr5 package came with color matched fender flares and a chrome rear bumper and grille surround. It looks like someone didn’t like the chrome rear bumper and chrome grille it came with and did some swapping.

I see a Sport hood and stock wheels, but that doesn't necessarily mean its a TRD Sport. It could be a good indicator though.

Leather seats have nothing to do with it, those are aftermarket and no packages came with that standard as far as I know

EDIT: agree with @BassAckwards . That looks like a SR5 with a Sport hood

so what about the leather seats and the 6lug wheels? The dealership and vin number says it’s base model sr5 with no prerunner. And as far as I’ve seen the sr5 doesn’t come with leather seats or 6lug wheels. Although I do feel like the seats could have been swapped.

Is there something I can look for to determine wether it’s a prerunner or base model? The reason I ask is because I need new struts and I know there is a difference between prerunner struts and base model ones

They could have swapped the seats for some aftermarket ones or added covers like clazzios or katskins.

sport wheels are an easy swap too along with the hood and grille. Those are a pretty common swap around here. The chrome rear bumper with the color matched flares, black door handles, and black mirrors all point to an sr5. TRD sports had color matched goodies

If it's 6 lug its definitely not a base model. The comparison you are looking for would be Prerunner sR5 vs TRD. Unfortunately the easiest way would have been to look at the stock seat material, but yours doesn't have that. I think the TRD Sport may have a LSD (Limited Slip) button left of the steering wheel, that the SR5 won't have? Someone else may need to confirm that though.

Thanks for the help. The reason I’m double checking is because I was told it was a trd and it also came with the trd stickers which I took off. After running the vin and seeing it was a sr5 I wanted to make sure it was a prerunner also or if the previous owner just bought the lettering and put it on himself like he did with the trd

Climb under it. If there is a transfer case and front diff then it’s not a prerunner. They are only 2WD

The black tokico shocks reaffirm the sr5 theory. The TRD sports came with yellow and blue bilsteins.

The lack of CV axles confirm it’s a prerunner

On a side note, what are those pieces in between the coil spring?

no clue. I’m guessing it has something to do with how they raised the truck. I’m replacing all of the suspension anyways and I’m going to get it raised the right way but I needed to know which ones to buy

Those are old fashioned coil spring lifts. You twist them in with an extension on a ratchet.
