Ya gotta compare apples to apples folks

    I've got a 2002
    118K on the clock
    V6 xtra cab
Fiberglass slightly taller than cab Shell
    Raised an inch or two
    30" tires
    Automatic
Ave speed on freeway w/AC on ~73
I get about 320 miles/tank and I've done the same drive 5 times in the past few months
    My last tank was 19.6.

I'll have to check my overall in the past 2 months as I track everything (I'm a nerd Industrial Engineer).:p

Hey! I'm going to minor in industrial engineering!
I increased my mpg's drastically over the past two weeks by doing some maintenance that had been overlooked by the previous owner. I cleaned the throttle body (which was completely coated!), replaced the fuel and oil filters, flushed the radiator and engine block, and seafoamed the engine. After doing all of that, I went from having a max distance 13.8mpgs to 19.1ish!

I'm not sure I would recommend doing the seafoam through the brake line though, at least on high mileage trucks. I didn't notice any increase in power or smoother shifting, but I did notice that my truck will now idle too low at stop lights.

I'm riding on rather bald tires at the moment, but I'll be switching to some nice all season/highway tires. I have an open diff, and don't have as much time to get out to the woods as I'd like, so a/t tires don't make sense for me.

    Well, there's my $.02

You need to do a write up on your driving/maintenance habits. Some simple math tells me you can save me almost 1000 bucks a year.

I have tried a couple of times to drive at 60mph, to save some gas, but than I always say : Screw it, my time is more precious than the couple of $ I will be saving... So, I get there quicker! :)

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
I guess I'm the odd man out. Driving a 99 reg cab, 2.7, 4x4, sr5. I've been getting 22 mpg for 8 years. Except when I carry my mountain bike in the bed, then I pick to 23 mpg. (It breaks the vacumn from behind the cab). I put a raised roof ARE topper on last week. I lost 2 mpg. Must be the increased vacumn from the high top.

Pics or it didn't happen.

    Simple math. 400/15 = ~27 mpg on a V6 4x4 Xtracab with automatic transmission.

Unless you constantly drive 60 MPH behind a semi-truck without the AC on, your numbers have to be off.

That, or you got a bigger gas tank than the rest of us. Over 400 miles per tank is ridiculous.

If it was a manual 4-banger on all highway, I'd believe it then. I assumed it was with the vehicle described in his one-line description as "'03 3.4l 4x4 auto SR5 Xtra cab TRD offroad". The 4 cylinders get freaking awesome mileage.

Last two highway trips I've gotten 19.5 mpg each time. And that is with 3 people and loaded with firewood/gear for the weekend. And I also have a shell. Anybody think having three Yakima racks on will reduce your mileage at all?

I guess once in a while running the tank low to see how many miles you get to a tank is OK, but once that fuel pump over heats and takes a shit your done, and that great mileage means nothing when you shell out big bucks for a new pump!

The fuel going through the pump is what cools it, you have to run the pump completely dry and then keep pumping for some time before you will damage the pump. That happens when people run out of gas and then don't realize the pump continues to run while they listen to the radio waiting for the tow truck.

I wasn't trying to compare anything. I'm just saying that it sucks that you can only go 250 on a talk or whatever. I do more highway driving than I do off-roading so my silent armor's work just fine. And they are one of the best ALL terrain tires I have used off road. By no means a MUD terrain. And I haven't lifted yet, but plan to when I don't commute as much.

On a side note this tank my scan gauge predicts I can go 445 miles. I get 60 miles with the low fuel light on. Haven't tried to push it farther. All highway.

You guys aren't filling your tank. If you fill it up you should be able to get 18.5 gallons in it pretty easily. Then it's under 22 mpg in the truck in my description. Pics next time I go to the pump. Might be a while. :D

    My trip log
started with full tank went- 278miles- put in 15.3gal 18.1mpg HWY
full tank went- 203miles- put in 13.3gal 15.7mpg City
full tank went- 248miles- put in 12.9gal 19.2mpg HWY

I would have gotten better mileage if i did not have my 9 foot surf board hanging out the back and a bunch of A-holes driving like crap. Oh i almost forgot about the 5-mile high dust storm followed my a monsoon. It was 1 of those weekends

    Are you sure it's 18.5?
I've driven 20 miles with the gas light on, and even then the most I could squeeze into the tank was 17.3 gallons. My truck didn't come with the manual, so I guessed that the tank size was 18 gallons.
