Honestly, there is not enough time.

I do think a good thick vinyl in matte black would be my answer for both sides around the taillights. Looks like the way the light is hitting that body line that it 'looks' darker there anyways. Your experience might be different, but I have never had any luck at a body shop with matching paint. Heck, Toyota can't even get it right themselves at their factory. Search double cab rear passenger door paint and see the number of factory paint jobs that Toyota dropped the ball on.

Are the taillights on the 3rd gen LED like on the second gen?

I feel your pain, OP. I had the same thing happen to me at work at about 2000 miles. I even got it on video from our surveillance camera.

You do realize that a human cannot match the quality of a machine right?? A factory coat will have a different appearance than a newly painted surface. It's a truck, not a show car. Considering OP doesn't have very many miles on his truck, he won't be able to tell the difference between the two. Grow a pair and move on with it.

I'm with you, man. I get that accidents happen, but most people are just simply careless or ignorant. In my case, the offender was a fellow employee (in a different department), new to the job, driving a flatbed Ford that was way above his pay grade, didn't back in initially as required, and didn't use a spotter when he was backing out. I recognize this kind of lack of focus and accountability is part of society so I try to do my part and play defense as much as possible. I guess for the most part things come out ok.....but when they don't, it sure is extremely aggravating.

They'll do a fine job matching the paint. They use shadow lines to their advantage. They'll spray as much of the vehicle as necessary to make it right.
If they can match the paint on my 15 year old Honda, they can match it on a month old Tacoma.

    No worries...

Work will pay......as soon as the collision industry catches up and is able to order parts.

    Good deal.
FWIW, I had the exact same damage on my silver '07.
They were able to blend over the wheel well and it looked great.
edit: Did it tweak the whole panel? The plastic cap looks raised and the gap is off at the tailgate.

I'm not correcting you or trash talking, but no. Picked it up with my hand and threw it on purpose. My truck, I threw it, never had to worry about the first ding. Dmg done, its a truck, now go use it.

OP, good luck with the paint match. I'm sure it will turn out fine.

If the paint doesn't match to your standards, you have the right to decline the "fix". My truck was damaged by a college student who didn't pay attention while backing up. Mine was warped pretty bad, but the body shop was able to fix it to my standards. It's all about the shop and if they know what they're doing.

Driving the truck from the dealer,on my block where I live. A bicycle messenger rear ends me at a red light. Dented and scratched my tailgate. Went to my body shop to get a repair, they tell me your out of luck OEM cement is not out yet. We can mix it but it wont be exact.
