As a house/building designer & car guy, I agree with the OP - older houses just don't cut it for garage space.

I have been designing for 26 years here in Canada, and design some fantastic "garage-ma-halls". Usually 4 stall + man cave, with stackers.

    Mod the garage !

My house was built in 1928, with a 20x24 detached garage. I had the garage rebuilt in 2002 with the same footprint and the Tacoma will just fit. I will not be able to walk around it.

I have a little over a foot to spare in depth and an inch or two in height with the truck in garage.

I’m ok with the height, but wish the garage was 5-6 feet deeper. Plenty of space to extend too, no idea why the never did.

One of the reasons I didn't get a double cab long bed. My AC fits in my 1950s garage with just enough room to open the tailgate, or walk behind the truck if the tailgate is closed.

None yet Still a "base" model..
Course there is! Will wait for the warm weather to return, then get the work done LOL

    I agree with your thought!

It's an access cab, but total lengths r the same I believe?

    Whaaaaaatttt???

Funny! I just bought one a week ago! LOL

IT parks allright, just not easy to move around it. Just barely squeezin... Good thing I've list 32lbs this yr! Like If have to work in the engine compartment, will b much easier to lve the garage door open
    But,
I can install the running boards w/o prob

    Cool sledgie!!

    Thx for the info

HOA police will try to kill us if I do that. I'm just hoping they might go dormant soon...LOL

It parks ok, just moving around front&rear is a bit difficult
I wish I could buy a vehicle based solely on measurements
The 2004 Discovery I last drove before biying the Tacoma had enough space
I just fell in love with the looks of Tacoma :p

    Lucky!

It was brought up into conversation with my wife, but she's scared of huriccanes now...
Will plan for somewhere a bit farther away inland, such as TN

I'd rather have a garage longer that wider myself
A buddy has one in which he can fit 3 cars in a row, By shuffling around some tool boxes on rollers anyway, if he really needs to.
But his house was built in the '30s!
My wife didn't want to put up with the higher maintenance usually necessary to keep up sucha place
So we went for a much newer place
Our condo was built 4 yrs ago

    It parks ok

    Not a chance for now...

    For sure...

Those full size trucks are nothing compared to the land yachts from the 70s lol. Should buy a 45 yr old house!

I made a bump stop for my front tire to hit. When it hits, I fit - DCLB.

But thats part of the mod to fix it.

    Install brush guard
Use brush guard to open up back of garage
    close garage door
hang tarp over giant hole in back of garage

My house was built in 1973, and it fits my 1973 dodge challenger with 4 feet up front and 1 foot behind. But the damn thing doesnt open open or close in the cold weather.

It’s simple, if you can park your rig in your garage, you don’t have enough tools. :gossip:

Does she realize that hurricanes are tracked for *weeks* before they make landfall?
We have 5 properties within 20 miles of where Irma's eye went through last year.
That bitch stole my water heater.

The biggest pain of it is waiting for them to let you back in, and waiting for them to fix and turn back on the utilities. Aside from that, its all just work.

But what do you expect from a 35k truck?? Definitely shouldn’t be anything like a 66k truck. :D

I’m talking about the girth. I have a utility package, so it’s like 24k of girth right at my fingertips.

When purchasing our home, a tape measure was used and 95% of the time a test fit with our trucks. No way in hell was I spending that kind of money, and no place for my vehicles.

With all the hail and heavy snow, this was a requirement.

This was a test fit with a Tundra and GMC 3500.

Last house I owned in Ohio had a monster size attached garage. It was 32 foot deep, and wide enough for a Lincoln Town Car, and a 87 Z28. I had enough space I could ride my bike in and out of the garage between the cars.

Garage in my current Florida house is super small. During the past two hurricanes I squeezed my Nissan coupe, Jeep TJ, and my bike in it. House across the street from me is owned by snowbirds that don't use their garage, so I keep the Nissan in it now.

When I got my Tacoma last week I was sitting in the garage enjoying all the space I had with just my table and chairs and bike. Never dreamed the truck would fit, but I thought I'd give it a shot. It's really tight, but it's also nice keeping it out of the Florida sun. I can squeeze between the tailgate and screen door, but no way when the garage door is closed.
