Your average used car dealer isn't always going to dig into the specifics of every vehicle that comes through their lot. They bought it for X amount of money, they mark it up and sell it.. it's just another truck to them

Best bang for the buck is the 2/1" Bilstein 5100s up front, set @ 2", and a 1" rear block. Stock coils as per Bilstein.

    Good luck & congratulations.

Yup. I’ll bet the guy that did the appraisal didn’t care if it was correct and just chose the cheapest trim package from the KBB list of Tacoma’s when offering the trade-in value to the previous owner.

A win for the OP but I feel bad for the previous owner and the pennies he prob got for his trade-in.......

Trade in on this truck is $24k so sounds like everyone probably got a fair shake

According to kbb.com, the price you paid is in the middle of the wholesale range for a base Offroad. That is likely retail for the SR5. That’s a little unusual but not unheard of. I personally would never buy a vehicle with 100k+ miles, but people do it all the time.

Well it’s not unusual for sure. This one’s about to get tested because I drive about 1800 miles a month for work in the summer. Then road trips in winter…

That's one of the advantages of buying a used car from a dealer that doesn't sell that brand of car. Most guys selling cars aren't that into cars and don't care/know about some of the specific of the vehicle (especially specific option packages) they're selling and may not value it. They could also easily look at a Tacoma Trail edition, see the locker and think it's the Offroad edition and sell it as that to some unsuspecting person who'll happily pay TRD offroad prices for it.

Agree with your thoughts on off brand dealers, but the Trail Edition actually has a higher MSRP than a base Off Road.

I did okay buying my Taco from a Dodge dealer...
My back-up Taco was at a Toyota dealer, and they were asking $3500 more for 13k less mines, no side steps, and no roof rack... (both were '18 Inferno Off-Roads)

I have bought three vehicles that were over 100k. One required an engine refresh and I ended up turning it into a rock crawler and have owned it for like 25 years. The second lasted maybe a year and the transmission failed so I sold it off. The Third needs a full engine rebuild but is also a 30 year old Landcruiser I'm restoring. My point is I would probably never buy a used vehicle with over 100k as my primary or daily

    Like, so many.
When you get ready to lift, be sure to check out the Eibach lift.

Thought this thing would be a stick shift, and have manual transfer case by now.

After entering the vin # to Kelly Blue book, it says the truck is SR. The value is $22k based on very good condition. $26k is not bad but it doesn't say I OR. Any accident report? My guess is it's a rebuilt.

My issue is laying out nearly 30k for a used car with no warranty. A classic vehicle is a special use case.

Anyway, hopefully this Taco will be problem free.

Ok, that’s not too bad then. Sorry, did I miss a post? How do you know the trade in price?

That’s just the KBB on trade in for his VIN and expected sale price of $26-27k which is what he paid.

For some reason everyone thinks because there wasn’t a sticker on it he got some kind of a deal.

We’ll see! But I have a Toyota network besides what I already know how to do! It has to be better than my Chevy…10k in repairs in a 2yr timespan!! I loved that truck and still miss it, but I don’t miss 9mpg (35” tires plus lift kit) and the transmission was starting to act up again, so.. I did debate buying a new truck, especially paying payments with inflation dollars going into the future. In the end I split the difference and financed a very small amount that I could pay off easily if needed, but this way I hold my cash! That payment amount will remain the same when the dollars I use to pay it won’t be worth a square of Charmin, lol. By that time the miles on the truck won’t matter because I will have done every mod on my list! Lol…

I was looking at Craigslist, used SR5's are 32 to 38k CAN and Off-Roads are 47k and up... again Canadian... so based on this area, OP got a smoking deal. Taking mileage out of the equation... I didn't look that deep.

I know... I know.. we have to pay more to get these vehicles up here... it's expensive to drive over an imaginary line... it's funny that we pay quite a bit more for Corolla's and they are made in Canada... we have to pay more to keep them here I guess...
