I have a Range Rover Classic and have had a BMW e36 and an Alfa Romeo 164. All of those were fun and rewarding for the most part with the odd frustration.

Everything I do on my taco is a pain in the ass. Even an oil change with the stupid drain plug(edit: I meant the spout to drain the filter housing) and the stupid filter housing cap(yeah it’s not hard to get off but was a special tool really necessary?)

I had to change the starter today after a run in with a mud pit and good lord. I could barely see the thing. I needed at least an extension and u joint every damn bolt and for a few huge Rube Goldberg chains of extensions and joints. Getting it out involved multiple attempts, and the perfect one angle to start with an array of rotations and angle changes to slip it out.

Probably just should, I end up making a mess using the spout anyway

The starter on my 100 series LC is under the intake manifold. Be thankful.

honestly... that setup isnt as bad as everyone makes it seem. i prefer replacing these over the 5.7 or 4.6l under the passenger side exhaust manifold.. and even those ultimately arent that bad.

I don't think that's much better. Pretty sure the prius also uses a custom tool for the oil filter.

5.7/4.6 by a fair bit living up here. Exhaust manifold bolts I’ve never had break. But rounding off due to rust isn’t uncommon and makes it a little more of a bitch

Yeah I watched a video on the 4.6. F that noise. Motor mount, exhaust manifold, etc. Can see why it wouldn't be fun.

Get a long 3’ extension - makes reaching starter and bell housing bolts a lot easier.

Woah motor mount? I’ve never had to pull that out lol. But they’re not fun. And of course. I’m the guy in the shop that does all of them

Apparently it's alternator or motor mount from what I've researched. I'd choose motor mount if that is the case.

I hold the oil filter drain spout in a cardboard tube left over from an empty roll of paper towels, and when I shove the spout up in there, all of the oil goes down the inside of the cardboard tube instead of down my arm.

I did the same yesterday, couldn't get the damn spout to snap in correctly, oil just kept running down my fucking arm so i said fuck it and just dropped it

Edit: I mean, i did what every sleazy dealership would've done, left the old filter in and just replace oil LOL
