She actually is. Thats what a marriage is - an equal partnership.

What she isn’t entitled to do is to say she doesn’t want it, that he could spend it on himself, then treat him like he is an asshole for doing it.

Which is kinda awesome because the couch is comfortable and it’s about time you focused more on just being YOU.

Since I also have a regular full-time career that pays fairly well, the wife and I have agreed that I can do whatever I want with all of my Army Reserve income -- unless I'm deployed or on extended TDY. The best part is that she has zero visibility on the account where all of my Reserve money goes. :D

Needless to say, I volunteer for extra duty days and short-term training events every chance I get. Because 'Murica!

probably not the best direction to go with but here's mine..after 2 divorces and now have a GF whom i've been with for a couple years knows i get a decent paycheck, i recently got in some truck parts for my c10 she comments on said parts then asks what they cost, i oblige and tell her then she brings it up 45 min later to which i had to remind her "until you pay for them or i ask for any bill money what i spend my money on literally has nothing do with you considering i never ask what you spend your money on" might be a reason for the last divorces you say? well i've tried the shared accounts ( got robbed while on deployment, lesson learned) tried the secretive thing , to many arguements, now whats mine is mine and whats your is yours end of story...good luck to all

The separate checking account approach is way to underutilized my married couples. We have a joint checking account for family bills/expenses and both get "allowances" in our own checking accounts. That has saved my wife and I so many arguments. I can buy stuff for my truck, buy the latest coolest camping gear, etc... and she can buy 50 dollar bottles of shampoo, spend money on clothes every week, etc...

    We both end up happy.

You spent 2/3. Still plenty of cash for an ironing board and vacuum bags.

I work, she works. Both have our own accounts and savings. I look after the bills, she buys the groceries and throws me a couple hundred every couple weeks to put towards mortgage. All smiles for the both of us.

My wife and I put most of our paycheck money in a joint account(s), but then each paycheck we also deposit a little bit of fun money into our own separate accounts. That way when each of us wants to buy silly stuff (me = fishing stuff, truck stuff, bikes... her = scrapbooking and art supplies), we use our own fun money and there's been no arguments about finances and has worked for us for almost 20 years. It also forces us (mostly me because my toys cost way more) to appreciate and plan for buying larger ticket items that require me to save over longer times.

My wife doesn't get bonuses, but I do. We split it into 3rds... one third for me for fun stuff, one for her, and one for the joint.

Being compatible financially with your spouse seems like a no-brainer top (or near top) priority when considering marrying someone.

I’m sorry, but If you are married I don’t believe in separate bank accounts. Paying for half and what not. Might as well be roommates with benefits. Just my 2 cents
