My parents were married for over 30 years and when they split, they split up the money and now are much happier. Turns out they never even got divorced. They spend much more time together now and both are them are much happier. My dad doesn't have to see my mom spending money, and then later complain about it, and my mom doesn't have to worry about what he'll think every time she wants to buy something. I'm not married but honestly separate accounts sounds pretty good to me right now.

I think the point people are missing is that if they are constantly getting into fights and disagreements over stuff like this, the problem isn’t the account, it’s the relationship... just sayin...

Maybe, maybe not. We all make compromises in all aspects of our lives, even with the trucks we buy. :) So if you and your wife can't agree on how/where/when money should be spent and just not having visibility to the money is the compromise, then so be it, I'd never judge that.

Sometimes you decide to marry someone who is really into things that you're not but you love them anyway. Happens all the time.

The State and Corps loves marriages, it makes two people liable for each other’s debts.

I get that. My wife and I are the living embodiment of your example. She has no interest in anything I like and the reverse is true for me and what she’s into yet we’ve been married for longer than many of you have been alive.

Communication and caring for the other person is what is needed to really make a relationship work, not devices.

It’s like saying the solution to keeping someone from running off is to lock them in the house. That’s not a solution. That’s just dealing with a symptom. A solution would be to address the issue that is causing them to want to leave in the first place.

It's even worse if one has a lot more money than the other and the one with no money gets sick and NOT die and then requires care on a long term basis.

Agreed. They’ll go after the estate or one person for the other’s medical bills.

Nice “Better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission” move.

Nice compromise on sparing a third to keep the marriage.

Tell her you really tried to make it 50/50 but for safety for the kids you needed to do it right. Also tell her you put the remaining into their college savings so now she has to take it away from them to get it.

27 years of practice and I actually enjoy sleeping with the dog on occasion, especially when I can see my truck.

i have question why do women feel the need to make you feel like a jackass when you don't coddle them or treat them like a princess?......seriously grow up and realize life doesn't go your way sometimes...or is that just me and i'm just an asshole who wants everyone treated the same?...you get treated how you treat someone...

Generally speaking, women are more emotional creatures than men are. Men would rather women see things their way and guess what, women would rather men see things their way.

I think you need to meet some different women, I haven't been with a girl like that. One of my ex's had a sister that was like that though, spoiled rotten and literally demanded to be treated like a queen. It was so off-putting and I felt awful for the guy she was with at the time, but he seemed to be into that sort of thing lol.

the numbers are a generality...not a scientist here...was merely stating it seems like a lot more women where i live versus dudes walking around... numbers don't really matter my point was some women act they are the last you will ever see or the only one you find that will cook, work, or drive a car...being an adult shouldn't be rewarded ( congrats for making this long in life i guess) but just because you get up shower and do some laundry and dishes isn't a reason for applause from me, because i can and do all those things too...
