I've had various Toyota trucks for many years, most recently an FJ then a couple of Tundras before that and several others going back over the years. And like many people, you notice other trucks like yours. With my FJ, they're weren't many around, certainly none in my neighborhood. It's not a big neighborhood, probably 8-10 streets and with my Tundras, there were a couple here and there but not many. Now that I have a Tacoma, there seems to be one on every street. So we were riding around in our golf cart the other night and hitting all the streets so I had the chance to actually count them. Fourteen! Yep, 14 Tacomas scattered about my small neighborhood and that's not counting mine or any that were in garages!

Yup, quite a popular truck. Lot’s around my neck of the woods too. Don’t feel special anymore.

They’re everywhere but in my garage…. “Pulled for inspection” is slang for MIA for 6 weeks and counting‍♂️

Well, they are one of the best selling vehicles in the USA.

Yup. But, I’m OK with that. I love having a regular vehicle as my daily driver/workhorse.

Was noticing that here in Dallas, but not near as much in Virginia where my folks live.

Not very many Access Cabs though.

You could be different and drive a Santa Cruz or a Subaru Baja.

I've noticed this too, and one day decided to take a spin and take a count, but gave up ...
There are at least 3 on every street in my little 'hood.
I should do a house-count and Tacoma-count and find the numbers.

Most popular midsize truck is popular. How is nobody paying attention to this?! Alert the media!

Same reason you don't notice a corolla or civic until you own one. Reliable vehicles are everywhere and you just don't notice until you have one.

Start paying attention to Chevy 1500's and it'll really blow your mind how many of those are still running after 30+ years

I used to own an 95 Chevy S-10 that I bought new. I'd go to junkyards and such hunting parts and find rows of S-10's, Rangers and Dakotas. Plenty of Jeep products too. Toyota pickups however were very rare and picked clean like ribs at a good BBQ place. Luckily, I was able to put two and two together and realize Toyota was the way to go. I put 180K on a 2005 SR5 Access with manual before giving that one to my dad to fart around in while grabbing a 2018 and later a 2020 SR5 Access for myself. I suspect many others saw the light and bought into the Toyota club as well-thus the large number of them we see on the road. My dad is approaching 80 and his Tacoma is approaching 220K I believe. He claims it's the best vehicle he has ever owned...... We counted them up and he's owned over 60 since 1960. My long-winded, verbose point is: people nowadays realize Tacomas are great and they buy and hold onto them like toilet paper at a heavy metal music festival.

I'd rather go back to another FJ but sadly they quit making them, at least for sale in the U.S.

Not many gen1 tacoma's here still in service, but gen2, and 3's are like cockroaches on our roads. At nearly any time you can see them.

I translate this observation to: “lots of aftermarket support for this platform for perpetuity.”

Alternatively, when I got my first “real” job after graduating college I almost purchased a Subaru SVX. Anyone remember those?

I thought it was a cool looking car back then, but God forbid anything breaks on it. Good luck getting a part for it.
