    You need higher octane for higher compression engines. Look at the compression ratio of engines with higher octane requirements and compare to yours.

    Going to be virtually unaffected by octane....

    Theoretically if you are running a super high octane for an engine that doesn’t require it, you are going to get unburnt fuel passing through the engine, which would damage the cat.... but standard pump fuel won’t have these issues

    87 octane requires less timing to burn under cylinder pressure.
    93 octane burns at hotter cylinder pressure so your computer advances timing to accomplish that task.

    More timing in an engine creates a more responsive engine.

    Reading this thread thinking I wish fuel was that price again...damn u canada its about $4.76 regular here and much higher in some parts of the country. No way in hell am I pumping supreme.

    ....just buy a cai and exhaust if ya want better mpg and hp...jeezz everyone knows that trick.. its well documented :spy:

    there are ricers everywhere that will swear to you they can feel a difference after theyve added a cold air intake and a fart cannon........doesnt make it true.

    we spend all this money on mods, and our brain will straight up lie to us to make us feel like we havent wasted a bunch of cash.
    only if your car is tuned to take advantage of it.

    its not as simple as just pouring in higher octane and getting better performance.

    if your car is "adding" timing due to higher octane, its only because it was pulling timing before, which means you have an issue.



    do you people honestly believe if simply adding higher octane gave any performance increase, that people doing track days, or weekends at the drag strip wouldnt be filling up with 110 and running?

    This claim that you get better mileage out of higher octane is nonsense. There is no more stored energy in a gallon of 87 octane vs 93. In some cases your performance will suffer because it doesn't burn as clean. Also an interesting point, E15 is 88 octane.

    No higher octane burns at a higher rate. Which allows you to increase timing. Timing is what increases engine performance.

    Speaking of drag racing. I've done it for 30 years. Advanced timing increases low end. An takes away from top end power. Retarded timing decreases low end power an adds to top end power.

    I don't know about cold air intakes. But cooler forced air induction makes more HP. Can not argue against turbos and blowers.

    Nope open headers run better. Bolt a section of pipe on it an cut it where it changes colors. That varies dependent on engine. Usual cut them about 18" or so from end of header.

    I wish we had 85 octane here as that's what I would use. Since we don't I use 87.

    You won't get better mpg (impossible) but it will give you a bit more power... not from the fuel itself, as a gallon of gas has generally the same amount of energy no matter what octane rating, but because the truck will change timing because of anti knock properties in the fuel and give you a bit more power.

    Now, go calculate what the difference in cost is for you for a year at 87 vs 93 octane. Simply the difference in price times the miles driven times number of years you will drive it... and tell me if it's worth it for about 10 hp.
