12 Tacomas in and my 3rd gen’s are constantly needing new windshields it seems within at least 20k miles and spare me the stop following too close and soft glass, all the nonsense I am aware and avoid trucks and always a good deal back on hwy. I’m sure it’s just the right spot and heat but just a Friday type post after coming out to my truck parked outside and a new crack and the Tacoma at the gym also having one lol.

I work at a body shop and the amount of tacomas our glass guy does is pretty crazy he says that he’s picked up OEM glass that has flaws at seems that usually cause the glass to brake with time. So I believe it man.

Been here long enough for the people like it’s just bad luck but I don’t know never had a vehicle or wife’s new ones that are Toyota Lexus with these many issues.

yesh I guess we can say bad luck but you’re not the only one with the bad luck then as far as our glass guy goes with how many taco windshields he’s had to change. And he said that most of them seem to crack from the edges as if they had a factor defect becasue he couldn’t not see any impact on the glass itself. But yeah guess only thing we can do is blame it on bad luck.

My original glass had horrible imperfections in it, bad enough to give me headaches, glad when it broke, didn’t even make it a year of ownership. Glass company put a Fuyao in. Seems to be holding up better than Toyotas Plinkington. No imperfections either.

This is the 2nd one that’s done this too me. My 17 same thing no impact, got dealer to cover it. This happened after it was 40 degrees outside and then jumped to 80 and sitting in sun. Is what it is. Truck is paid off just painful replacing it and $$$, was actually looking at a clean 2021 Tundra limited with the first small on the way just can’t seem to part with my Taco and not now with new glass paid for lol

glass life is luck of the draw.. Not there are some much more aerodynamic vehicles that I am guessing don't take a direct hit as bad. Try the old Wranglers, that shit was a joke, of course they have laid the windshield back more and more over the generations.

Tacos, FJs, and wranglers all suffer from this. Especially in gravel states/provinces.

My area has the highest rate of sunroof explosions.

I have a 2017 and have only had the original windshield (lasted about a year) and one aftermarket Pilkington. The aftermarket has taken some hard hits that I swore should have dingged it... I say it's just luck of the draw.

I know plenty of friends with BMW's, Chevys, and everything else with cracked windshields. We're just in an echo chamber.

Edit: of course now, I'll get a ding.

I remember being stationed in AZ new windshield was routine maintenance. This looks like a defect or the smallest chip ever at the top of the glass cause it comes down from the top and out. Oh well.

I've caught a crap load of chips. Some chip guy told me that he doesn't do more than 6 repairs, I've filled at least 11 over the years.

Still on the original glass though.

We have three cars. No garage. No matter where we park acorns are gonna hit the cars. And no I’m not cutting down 70 plus year old elm trees. Also not bitching but something is up with Toyota glass.

2006 Cadillac XLR. Windshield is almost parallel to the ground. No issues. Acorns hit windshield all the time.

2018 Subaru Outback. No issues. Same with the acorns.

22 Tacoma. 5 months old in May before I left on my trip. Small green acorn hit the windshield. Cracked from middle of glass to lower right corner. They came to the house and replaced it. Rock ding on I90 in Montana a month later. A mile after it happened entire windshield cracked in all directions. Took it to Toyota dealer as it was my only option. Finished truck was sitting in lot. Went out with service manager and entire windshield was shattered. The next one in 5 days “didn’t feel right” to the tech. Broke when they picked it up to put in truck. I’ve had 9 windshields since May. Had one put in in Mexico in September of unknown origin and quality. Have actually seen rocks hit this one and not a nick or ding anywhere. Haven’t been able to get a non Toyota replacement made by the same manufacturer (something with a P if I remember). Wonder how they are.

It’s crap. We live where they love to chip seal everything, swear the DOT here and the windshield companies are in cahoots. Get gravel constantly pinging off the front of the truck. My ‘99 took a beating, being bombarded with rocks that should have broke it but didn’t. My ‘21 first little ping, instant crack, not mention the wavy imperfections in it, thought something was wrong with my eyes. Complained to the dealer, said they are all like that these days. So how come all of my old trucks didn’t have that problem??? Got a shoulder shrug in return.

The new US made Chinese owned company windshield has taken some serious hits, so far so good. Of course since I said something watch it break this week.

So it's actually the side moulding design that causes aloooot of these issues. The glass seats so tight it's already under a fair amount of stress amplifying the effects of any chips.

Mines pitted to heck from all the blowing sand and dirt in AZ. Even has a couple of chips I've filled and the passenger side has some kind of weird haze imperfection baked into it from the factory. I need to replace it, but I know it's money down the drain. I'm leaving it as is for now. :notsure:
