I miss college. I even pledged in Phi Kappa Theta.

Always remember: When you go to hook up with a girl, go to her place and leave after. That way she won't know where you live. I made that mistake a few times.

Also, Don't drink liquer. I learned that the hard way. When my friends see me drinking liquer they know that I am all about being a 100% wingman that will not turn anything down.

I'm not a big fan of college. Everyone always says treasure your college years and that they will be the best of your life...well, im not impressed. I'm active on campus with several different societies, in a fraternity, blah blah blah... Its just a shit ton of studying and hard work. I'm glad i'm doing a co-op program where i work every other semester otherwise i'd go nuts being here.

Otherwise, glad the OP is having fun being druck

I know what you mean. Except I'm not a frat douche :D

Engineering is a ton of work and studying but I absolutely love my campus and the area around it. I can do so many different things at any given time it never gets old and I am in no hurry to leave :)

Hopefully. I'm just active in a fraternity for a better resume and the discount i get on my insurance

    Yep.

If you were to meet me, you would definitely not see me as the frat type and thats how most of my fraternity is. were pretty small with only 40 members. There are a lot of advantages to being in a fraternity, but most people who aren't in one don't see them.

but yea, i'm gonna be here for a long time. Co-op+five year plan+master= about 8 years.

Don't mean to derail this thread but IMO what you're doing makes no sense. If you were marketing or some BS degree then I would see how the frat helps put you in a job through networking but you should be able to get a job on skills + degree alone.

Nope. The engineering market where i'm from is fairly flooded right now and with the scare of cuts on defense spending, every little bit helps. Plus the president of my fraternity just got his IE degree and got a very powerful job.

Remember the two rules to be successful in life:

    1) It's not always what you know, but who you know.
    2) It takes money to make money.

thats kinda the not what you know but who you know kinda thing. If you make friends with the boss and he really likes you, who's he gonna hire when you apply?

    Beat me to it.

OP say what you want, but I've always had success with colleagues. These are friends I've met through skills in my career field, not a frat. In the end someone putting in a recommendation or tipping you off to an opening beats greek letters any day of the week.

Not to mention the whole fees/dues thing....

Alright, let me spell my whole situation out to you to hopefully keep you from thinking me being in a fraternity is a bad idea.

I am currently a junior at Auburn university in Mechanical Engineering. I am going to be taking the 5 year plan as to save my GPA and Full Scholarship. On top of that I am doing the co-op program. Doing this I alternate work and school semesters, putting me one year behind. Nothing looks better on a resume than work experience, am I right? Well heres the low down on my co-op position. I work for a sub contractor for the Government in the DEFENSE industry in Huntsville Alabama (engineering meca). Well guess who's the boss of the Government program we work for? The president of my fraternitys dad. He's also an alumni from my fraternity. Guess who got a job right out of college? His son. Guess who's good friends with his son? Me. His son is obviously extremely active in the fraternity and would frown upon me leaving it(which i have contemplated many times to devote for more time to studying). So If I have a full scholarship in college, a co-op job that pays well enough for me to have bought a new tacoma and pay for fraternity dues, all the while I'm still making a 3.5 or higher, why would I burn a bridge like that? So what if I pay a grand or two over the period of 2 years paying fraternity dues, wouldn't it be worth the peace of mind knowing that I have a possible job opening with the government once i graduate?

Paul I know you well enough to know you arent like the stereotype. I play rugby and it is close enough to a frat for me. Unless you are in a special frat here at VT, you are basically buying friends and the right to party with them

There are definitely those "fratty" fraternities here, but i wasn't even interested in them. I chose quality, not quantity. But apparently there is nothing good to come out of being in a fraternity.
