Look up in Alabama and Georgia. When I was looking for my truck back in December, I came across several x runners, even some 2007s (new) at one lot.

You can't let the salesman know how much you want the truck or they won't budge. It's probably too late for this one. He probably thinks he got you in his pocket (no offense intended) because you're young and female. I think the dealers try to take advantage of young inexperience buyers. (and old gullible ones too)

Figure out what you want to pay for the truck and how much your trade in is worth, do the math and that will be your price. Also figure out the payment according to the loan amount and length of the loan. They will manipulate this figure and try to trick you in a longer term. They ask me what kind of payment I was looking far.

Say your $11,000 at 6.3% for five years would be around $215 a month. So you tell them $215 a month payment is what you want. They'll ask well how much more can you afford; so maybe you'll say up to $250. He'll come back and say good news, we can do $250 a month for 72 months. He just suckered you into paying the $15,000 for the truck.

They tried this with me. I got up and walked out several times because of the trade in amount. I didn't get what I wanted for my trade in but I wasn't realistic on it's actual value. I also take a financial calculator and crunch the numbers in front of the salesman. They know I know their tricks.

I've bought many vehicles and learned something about dealing with salesmen with each one, even the last one. I've made the mistakes so maybe this will give you a leg up on me when I was your age.

My kids are your age. When I bought a Ford truck back in 1989, after eight hours in the dealership, we finally couldn't control them any more. They were in every car in the showroom and there was a hand print on everything from the floor up to three feet. Then things started to go my way.

Check out http://www.edmunds.com/ for good information. You can figure out what your truck and the Tacoma is worth. It also has calculators to figure out payments, etc.

    Good luck.

    It's the wife's T4R so it's stock
This is turning into a nightmare...

It's not worth it to drive to AZ to get this truck.

Sorry, I misread your post. You want a prerunner not an x-runner.

Time is your friend. Unless you're having to walk and your current ride is sufficient, then wait a bit. You might get what you want with a 2009 with incentives later in the year. The dealership can get you the truck from another dealership if they don't have one in stock, but would be less likely to deal as the dealership that has the truck. That's what happened to me.

Always deal in "out the door" price. Then you're not surprised with all the additional fees and taxes. If they addthat after your price, the walk.

Walking away is your biggest advantage.

Also if your gut tells you no or you feel uneasy; it's best to walk away.

Well... I got the email back and they only offered $5k for my truck. That is ridiculous. I would be financing about $14k plus tax, tag, and title. The '08 I'd be financing like $14.5k plus tax, tag, and title so obviously it is not worth it. I will send them an email but I do not think it will get me anywhere. It is a bummer because I was really digging the '07 (I just like odd numbers better). Meh..... Huge bummer. I was even trying to get a shift swap so I could make the trip. Someone mentioned I should try and sell mine privately and then fly to AZ and buy theirs... The timeline for that would be too hard, not to mention my Fronty has already been on Craigslist with no bites for a month! Huge bummer...

Well I was going to e-mail the dude but my computer sucumbed to some nasty spyware. I'm not pointing fingers, but I'm pretty sure it was from a thread here where a link was involved to another website for some sort of "product" for your Taco. I recall getting an invalid product number from the link and then BAM, spyware out the ying yang. I've reformatted and still have it so this will require some creative work...

Good luck on your search jeirye, AZ is super far away and I-10 is way too boring and long. No matter waht you do though, don't settle for just any Taco. Get exactly what you want. P.S. what part of FL are you in?

Okay, so I found another one:

2007 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab Speedway Blue TRD Sport 2WD Auto with about 35,000 miles. Location: Not Tellin!

Yeah, this one is states away as well, but I would be financing about $10.5k OTD. And this was without even negotiating! They take bank drafts also! What do you guys think I should do? Try and get it for 10k OTD? I just can't imagine paying sticker price, but I'll admit, they are giving me a good bit for my trade-in. It seems it's almost out of warranty, too (the Taco). I mean, heck, by the time I drive back into FL I'll be out of warranty. That is the only concerning thing. What do you guys think?? I could do a shift swap for Tuesday and have Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday off. Be in the state by Monday-Tuesday and then head on back. Well?? I am so nervous now because this could actually happen!!

Wtf... Sold. How can he give me a price and then tell me it's sold. Because he never looked on the lot to see if it was actually there and (of freaking course) it was sold yesterday. I am so sick of these tacomas you have no idea.

Go to vehix.com and look for Tacomas. You can usually figure out which dealer they are from in the pictures. Offer them a price Cash out the door and see if they bite. I got my 2007 at 17K out the door (it had 22K on it). At the time that was a good deal. It is a Prerunner AccessCab SR5 2.7L with side bars, bed mat, and a few other options (sliding glass, power windows/ locks/ alarm/ keyless. They originally wanted 21K + TTT. Sold my old car on my own and got 3X what they offered.

I saw a V6 double Cab on the lot it was a close out 2007 that they were asking 20K (after 2000 rebate) + TTT so deals are out there...you just have to go looking. I am sure there are dealers trying to get rid of 2008s. Ask about upcoming incentives (like cash back). They will probably tell you now in advance because nothing is moving anywhere. I bet there are still a ton of 2008s on lots well into April.

Anyway, it is definitely a buyers market. I don't think you are going to go much lower than about 16-17K for a 2007 or newer V6 TRD unless it has high mileage or someone is really desperate to get rid of a truck. Make them a FAIR offer and if they don't take it...move on. It sounds like you really want the truck (and all of us TOTALLY understand....it is a GREAT truck), but wait it out a bit and you won't end up with buyer's regret.

But I will never have buyer's regret. I want a 2007 Tacoma TRD Sport in Speedway Blue. I am not settling, so where is the regret? If I can get it for 13k OTD or under I would be a happy girl, but for 13k it better have low mileage... In addition to my trade in, ofcourse.

    And the search continues...

    Rye,

I'd be pissed too, if they sold one out from under me like they did to you... but have a little patience... you are looking for a specific truck. Everyone loves their tacomas and don't want to "give" them up. Yours will come to you at the right time for the right price. I know it's tough, but don't give up. You will find it and when you do, you will be glad you waited.

I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. I can't buy a new Taco because 1. expensive and 2. I do not like the design changes. I want to stay away from the 05's ad 06's because of the frame issues. Therefore, I'm left with an 07 or 08. The more I wait, the more miles will accue on the years that I want to buy!!! So basically, the Tucson dude is a good option right now, but not the price........ I am stuck.
