I miss my V-8 engine

    Hey folks,

Just returned from a road trip with the wife. We went from Philadelphia to Virginia to ride Skyline Drive and The Blue Ridge Parkway in my new 2020 Tacoma Off Road that I just got about one month ago. I downsized from a Ford F-150 SuperCrew because the kids are out of the house now and I don't need to lug 3 boys, their friends, and sports equipment around any longer. The Tacoma was great - I really love this truck. But man, I really miss having a V8, especially after experiencing all of the hills in Virginia. Of course I knew when I bought it that it wouldn't be as powerful as the F-150 but those hills really opened my eyes to the difference between the two engines. Regardless, I really like my Taco and I'm sure I'll eventually get used to the 3.5L engine.

I went from a Titan with a 5.6 V8 and it sure takes some getting used to. But that comes with the territory of a smaller truck.

Yup - around town the Tacoma is just fine. It's on those long highway/hilly trips that I miss V8 power.

FML! I didn't read! Most of the people complaining about the hills are AT! You got me on that one! My bad!

Yes. It is the partial manual mode for the AT. It only limits the highest gear and still shifts normally below that. It is just like the 1, 2, 3, D AT selectors of the old days and driving around in "2."

I make all those hills fine with my 4 cyl. Even with being lifted on 33’s. Now the hills on Rt. 68 in western MD, that’s a different story. Those are tough in the 4 banger.

    ^this.

It’ll fix all the stupid shit Toyota did and make it run like you’d expect. Well worth either doing yourself or finding someone local to do it for you.

Was a bit of a shock at first going from a tundra 4.7 v8 to the 3.5 v6 taco, but thats all changed. I'm use to it, and the trucks use to me.

I miss my flat 6 :pout:

But having a kid and then buying a house means a Tacoma is a much better vehicle than a Boxster.

Now I wonder how I survived without a truck bed!

And I've been able to hike and camp in places I couldn't get to before!

Lmao. Only time stick shift is fun is if the car has an uncontrollable amount of power. These trucks aren’t that.

And yeah the V6 is getting to me too. Looking at 6.2 raptors now.

In a couple years Ford has a new 6.8 V8 coming out, guessing it's gonna be a destroked version of the new Godzilla V8.
