i bought a 2013 Prerunner recently and was confused about the tow package. Sellling dealer said it was so equipped - but had no sticker (they weren't a Toyota dealer) and the other specs I found had no mention of it. The online Toyota vin number site was unclear - like it was both tow and not tow. But it did have the 7 wire harness and looked to have the tow package oil cooler set-up - but what it did not have was the tranny cooler. And that cooler to me would be definitive visual evidence.
Over the weeks I looked under the hood and didn't see it - got underneath one day looked up and didn't see it - and then tonight I used a flashlight looking after fooling with the air filter - and found it!
Under a beam that blocked my view from the top and above one that blocked me from below.
    Duh.
Like my dad used to say when I missed what was right in front of me: "If it was a snake it would have bit me."

Easiest thing that will ID it as tow package is the oil cooler. Donut shaped piece directly under the oil filter that has two hoses attached.
Trans cooler if you have an auto, higher amp alt, hitch, 7 pin plug, elect brake controller pre-wire are the others.

I have the oil cooler but figured it was maybe just an oddity? Not as expensive as the tranny cooler so maybe...? So I had one but not the other?

I was wrong of course -
