Let me start by saying I love my 2005 Tacoma TRD. I'll never sell or trade it. I have 172K miles and the truck is still beautiful, although I have to say its not all original metal! Toyota replaced the frame at 110K. I'm on my second set of TRD seat covers and just today found a new set at the Toyota parts website.

Having said all that, I needed to return a quart of paint to the local big box store. You can probably guess already where I'm going with this! Why I didn't put the can on the floor, or better yet in the bed, I don't know. But to make a long story short, the can tipped, the lid came off and there ya go! The seat covers did a pretty good job containing most of the paint, but enough crept through the holes at the back of the seat to do damage (irreparable) to the underlying seats! ARGHHHH.

So here's my dilemma. I have the VIN number, but I'm told the trim code is on a different label that is found on the access door. Remember above when I said it's not all original metal? Well the access door on the driver's side where the trim code is located, is not original. So I'm not sure what trim package I have. SR5 comes to mind when I think back to Dec 2004 when I purchased the truck new. I have the TRD decal on the fender. So is it possible to have a TRD with a SR5 trim package? Are the seats the same for an SR5 and a TRD, if in fact there two different varieties of the same species??? Does anyone have the appropriate part number, eg 71073AD0B1. Looking on Toyota parts website and I'm not sure which two seat covers are correct.

Any suggestions will be very much appreciated.
    Thanks much
    Rich

Have you tried looking up the VIN on the toyota website? That should at least get you the trim level as it came from the factory.

When I put in the VIN on the parts website, it gives several seat cover options. Was hoping it would limit the options to one choice, like you are suggesting. I think I have it pretty well narrowed down, but given the price, I really want to get it right the first time.

I believe that the TRD package includes the SR5 trim. You have the TRD seats and not SR5 seats. They are not the same seats.

Yes, you can have a TRD w/SR5 (mine is a TRD Off Road w/SR5). Is yours a TRD Off Road or TRD Sport?

    Thanks guys.

Wattapunk: so if I have SR5 trim package, why wouldn't I have SR5 trim seats?

Burrito782: I'm embarrassed to say I'm not sure, but thinking Sport rather than off road.

In looking at a 2007 thread, it sounds like SR5 passenger seat folds flat, TRD passenger seat does not fold flat.

Given that, I have TRD seats.

Looking at the website, 2005 Tacomas ONLY came with sport seats as opposed to bucket seats!

    Thoughts?

You mentioned the TRD decal on your truck, which I'm assuming you're referring to the one located on the AFT end of the bed panel by the tail lights. If so, it should say either "Off Road" or "Sport" next to the TRD.

Also, your tailgate you should have a SR5 emblem on the lower RH (passenger) side.

Thanks Burrito782, yes!!! SR5 it is!

Again, looking at 2007 thread on similar question, commenter indicated that "...SR5 passenger seats fold flat, TRD don't".

Mine does not fold flat!! But I'm going with SR5 since that is on the tail gate!!

    Thanks for the tip!
