Might as well just tell OP to switch to 91 gas, he'll get more power.

in the summer or when I'm towing usually 10-40, 10-30 didn't help MPG thinner oil gives more performance but less cooling and lubrication....

Here is what not to do...... Do not remove this screen until you have a fuel controller, it will just make it run worse..... Don't buy the Jet what ever it is suppose to be, just ran worse I think it leans it out a little and shifts weird.....

Embarrassed I ever bought that one....

after you get a controler for your stock truck and remap it, you only need 87 octane, 91 runs worse when you are at 12/1 fuel/air ratio....

Oh I was more concerned about the 10. I run 5w30. I have never run 5w40. Do you have the 1gr?
What is that product? I've never heard of it

Same weight tires but taller is actually better for MPGs. its the weight difference. I believe those toyos are like 55-60lbs. stock is like 40lbs i think. Also added rolling resistance because of the wider contact patch. 4.10s would be good though. A lot of guys run 4.56s on 35s so might be a little extra torquey for 33s.

I think 5-30 is what is recommended, I personally don't like 5wt it's for MPG, when I first got the truck I was towing a 16ft enclosed trailer so I used 10-40 and now I'm trying 10-30 but it seams to run the same, I may switch back....

That is the screen behind the carbon/silencer filter, I have a K&N drop in air filter and removed the silencer, after awhile I removed that screen and it ran worse, it leaned it out too much... the maf cal from URD fixed that problem now it's great.....

5 or 10 or 20 before the "w" (Winter) is its modified cold pour viscosity. Due to additive packages in the oil. The actual weight is the second number. Without the modifier, it is just a 30 , 40 , or 50.

I am not the norm. I run 5w-50. Gas mileage far second to protection.

True about the weight but don't taller tires imply weight that is further from the axle making it harder to move? Also, if taller tires are better for MPG, then you are saying longer gearing is better. If that's the case regearing shorter would be BAD right?
So ideally, we should all run 10w-50 for engine protection? Is there a point where it's overkill? And of course I'm sure that depends on daily driver vs a NEVR build...

Well, here's the thing, its kind a of a wash depending on how tall of a tire you get. At some point you might level off because the taller the tire, the less revolutions its making so you're actually going further than what your truck thinks, however, a taller tire leads to more weight. So the 'more mpg from a taller tire thing' just isn't something I'd really push for. If you're bumping up to a larger tire, you're gonna have a power loss and most likely an MPG loss as well.

So when you say rotary engine, are you referring to the rotating crankshaft assembly or nah?

When I when to 32s (275 70 17) I lost 2-3 MPG down to 17 and it was really doggy, But now I'm running better than stock..... With my cat back, lift 2 1/2 in the front and 3 1/2 in the back, and intake spacer I picked up 1 back up to 18 MPG.....

So I would say taller tires won't help mpgs.....

I agree. It would have to be substantially lighter to offset the distance from the axis and no one makes them like that. I have tried to find 255 or 235 33" tires and they're all E rated meaning much heavier
2-3 sounds like a BIG loss just for going to 32s. Can we have more specifics on the previous and current tire? Tread type, weight, wheel size, etc? What kind of cat back and intake spacer did you get? Is this the one you're referring to? https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/xtp-ims-summer-sale.375683/#post-10298658
I have heard a few people with that spacer claiming MPG gains but it was like, 0.5 MPG. Also, how far apart were these mods and after which one did you bump up 1 mpg? Could it have been a change in driving style or trip type?

It is mainly a wash. I mainly base this off an uncle who has a BMW and a tacoma but the taco is stock. He changed from the stock bmw tires to some lightweight rims and low pro performance tires that were 2 inches more in diameter but was about 2lbs lighter per wheel so essentially same weight. His gas mileage went up 2-3mpg on average depending on driving habits. I assume the tacomas are the same. But theres so many factors that its a difficult problem.

Yeah taller gearing is better for gas mileage at cruising speeds since it will have less RPMs. But your starts will require you to push it more which negates that if you have mostly balanced city/hwy. For mainly highway driving yeah taller gearing would help gas mpgs.
