The way you made her sound made it seem like she wasn’t helpful or nice about it, did you end up buying the truck from them? Someone who wanted to keep a good customer should have tried to help you with that. Sorry.

I did. This conversation happened after the purchase. I had been lurking TW prior to it and shared some of my plans. She's a cool lady but from what she told me, it was Toyota that put a hault to selling PRO parts to everyone regardless if they owned one. It had to do with someone buying an OR and converting it into a PRO which then devalues that line. That's what I was fed. Then again, maybe she just said F.U. in a nice way I didn't catch it right there

Call your dealership or another dealer and ask them to check the availability in a 100 mile radius and see if another dealer has one in stock. I was shot down a few times when the parts manager was using pro vin's to help me get one. Lucky I got one from a close by dealer and paid $250 for OEM grill and garnish.

Do they only check if it matches or check who bought it or where it's located?

penalties for owning illegal vin should be about $10,000 and 10 years of imprisonment.

I don’t understand why this is even a thing. There are a hundred places to buy one, even legitimate OEM without the VIN. Nut up and get one if you want one.

Dealer wants a VIN, go somewhere else.

Or jump on autotrader and find a trd pro truck for sale private party in your area and snag the vin. As long as it’s not sitting on a Toyota lot, you’re good. Dealership doesn’t give an f if it’s not yours, it’s just a box they need to fill out to sell it to you.

I bought my OEM grill from Lowe Toyota Parts https://parts.lowetoyota.com/
I did the whole order online, didn't talk to anyone. On the order screen it says something about "...would you like to enter your VIN to make sure the part fits.." I just ignored that and placed the order. I needed it to get to my house before fam left for vacation so I paid for next day shipping, I dunno maybe that helped that and I'm overseas right now so they couldn't call me if they wanted to. But they didn't email me or question anything. I got the grill in a couple of days for $197.52 back on June 16th. Give them a try.

    --JQ

Edit: Looks like they're asking $242 now, and I know I've heard that the garnish piece for the radar sensor has also gone up in price. Not sure what's driving the increase but it could have something to do with the sensor recall that's been going on, maybe knucklehead techs are breaking the grills when they replace the sensors somehow.

Didn’t California just put into law that it’s illegal to request borrowed VIN when ordering Tacoma parts?

Hey sorry been moving into a new house and haven't been on TW for a while. Yeah back in June I didn't have an issue getting a Pro grill from them. Too easy.
