I have orange/red spots in my paint (2017 Tacoma TRD Sport Super White). Does anyone else have this phenomenon as well? Is it rust? I bought the truck used with 38,000 miles almost two years ago and I love it. It gets washed approximately once a week, but I am concerned about rust. Any input is appreciated.

It may be. But anyone who confirms w/o seeing it (like over the internet) is just guessing.

What happens when you try some polish on the spots?

Pictures of the spots would be helpful.

If you are near railroad tracks you will get microscopic metal pieces landing on your paint that will rust, l think there is a product called something like Iron X that will remove it.

Also if you park near a mulch bed there is a fungus that grows and “explodes” off of the mulch leaving orange/brown or black spots that are difficult to remove. I’ve read it’s attracted to brighter cars like silver and white, but maybe it’s just easier to see on those colors. This happened to me on a silver Highlander.

It's refered to as "Fallout" in the industry.

A good detailing shop can remove it. Very common on white cars. Not always near railroads, but more often than not.

In addition to what has already been suggested, have you tried a clay bar at all?

    Paint does not rust.

Not likely your problem but my truck is currently covered in red stains after a trip to the Minnesota iron range. The shit leaves stains that are a bitch to wash off.

It’s not likely but I heard from a friend on another thread about oil change intervals that marpesia petraus leave spots.

Whole truck or in one area? If someone welded or used a grinder or cutoff saw near your truck, hot metal sparks can get embedded in the paint and they will rust.

Iron deposits would be my guess. Try something called Iron-X. It's a decontaminent.

I will post pics later today. But after reading some of the comments and looking at the link I believe you guys are correct. I do have fallout remover and will see how that works. I guess I will just have to go with a ceramic coating from here on out. Thanks for the help guys.

Clay bar should remove it. Worked for me.

I’ll second the iron x stuff. Had a white Silverado that I sold recently and had to use if every spring. A lot easier than a clay bar. Spray it on, let it sit a few minutes, then rinse. Works great.
