I just got a 2019 silver toyota tacoma off-road doublecab. I want to lift it or level it, but I'm not sure what to choose... or if what I have stock is good enough? I would like to do mild-medium offroading ...not climbing bolders. but also I still want to maintain some form of mpg on the highway as well. If you couldn't already tell I'm new and know NOTHING.

    My advice:

Do your research and avoid buying into the idea that you need to spend $10,000 on a lift to drive down a gravel road.

I have the same truck and similar uses. For me, this lift worked perfectly and was relatively inexpensive:

Bilstein 5100 front lifting shocks and stock springs set for 1.5” lift

Bilstein 5100 rear shocks and an add-a-leaf for 1.5” lift in back and better handling of payload.

Never needed or wanted anything different. Recently had to upgrade my front springs when I added a winch bumper. 5100s are still perfect.

I agree with the others above. Get the Bilstien 5100s. It’s a good lift for the money. I have the 5100s with OME 887 coils, SPC upper control arms, headstrong off-road rear progressive AAL. It’s a better ride than the stock OR suspension. My whole setup was around $1200. I also agree to contact Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road. She will hook you up!

Do you mind sharing the cost, minus the winch bumper and the springs you had to upgrade?

I like my lift setup for 2.5" in the front and 2" in the back. Went with 5100's all around and replaced the front springs with Eibach pro springs w/ 5100 at the 2nd setting. $60 wulf AAL from Amazon in rear. All together came in a little less than $600 with installing myself.

    Cost:
    *5100s: ~$375 from amazon

    -Rear: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BYNJ93Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    *Eibach Pro Springs: paid~ $150

Wulf 2" AA: ~$60 on amazon

Welcome aboard. The recommendations other have made are all reasonable options. I took a little different approach. The TRD offroad package isn't bad for a stock truck. I left mine alone for the first year. I went out on trails, camping, fishing, etc. and figured out what would best improve performance for my use. I started with skid plate upgrades and sliders. Next came upgraded tires, and the suspension came last.

Welcome to TW!! There is so many options for suspension setup I recommend find some other owners and ride in their setup and see what you like/dislike about it.
A good set of tires, recovery gear, and cooler full of beer you can have a great time wheeling.

Another option is you could add some skid plates and not lift it, would preserve mpg

That's exactly what I'm looking at currently. I'd love to see a pic and know what your install cost looked like, if you're willing to share.

Welcome. Happy to help. There is good, no great advice above for sure. We too would recommend the Bilsteins without knowing more intimate details or you riding in others modded Tacomas first, etc..

You're also on the right track in that if you really keep life pretty simple a RevTek Spacer lift would be fine. https://puretacoma.com/index.php?main_page=index&manufacturers_id=201

The only thing we'd add is to consider small businesses now that the pandemic is impacting us all. We're willing to match and give GREAT discounts now more than ever (just call or email) to help BOTH you and us. Amazon giants won't have to look you in the face at events and club meetings and know they did the right thing and Amazon/Ebay doesn't answer your installation or related calls after purchase that I know of.

In the end, welcome to TW, your truck is really nice looking and stay safe and well out there my friend. Cheers!
