Hey TW, I wasn't in the market for a new truck, but my AC compressor in my 2008 needs replacement, quoted at $1200 to fix. With 168k miles its easy to anticipate other major fixes close up the road, including a possible frame patch for which I am outside the window of a new frame.
Help me decide. Should I get the AC fixed or upgrade. I'm leaning towards late model 2nd gen. in DCSB off road mostly because I love that body style and 4.0, but also because for my price range I'd be looking at early 3rd gens. Which I have heard were buggy. Or maybe just say F it and spring for a 2022
Anyway I'm not looking for "the" answer, but mostly you guys opinions on my situation.

    Thanks

I would explore the cost of patching the frame and include that in your decision making. Your truck should last a while yet, but may need some things here or there like wheel bearings, etc, with that mileage. I would not buy any car right now, new or used, the way the market has been lately.

    pinstripes. lots of pinstripes.
Seems high for compressor replacement. Get another quote? Rock Auto shows the cheapest new compressor for 188, and a Denso for 312.

I'd do the repairs and keep the 08 going.

Fix it and keep on going.
You kinda answered your own question. Stay in a best gen. If my motor quit today I wouldn't think twice about dropping a new one in.
