Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
It's not monitored daily, it is used after the fact, much like the Black Box found in an airplane. This way they can tell how you were driving at the time of the incident (this can be beneficial or hurt you if you are a wild driver).

Scary... Maybe I'm a little paranoid, but coudn't it also be used to prove a hike in some of our insurance rates too? Seems over-bearing to me. JMO ("so what if I spin doughnuts now & again? I had to let the horses run a little")

I think the original question was not about a black box for "big brother" to watch you. I think it's cause someone's parents want to keep an eye on him in the car. Or at least make him think they are watching....and I wouldn't give him any help disabling it.

The "block box" you guys are so worried about....It would be EASY to get a court order to get those boxes and police have been investigating collisions for a LONG time-They don't need that box to figure it out.

And for all the guys worried about onstar commands and what not- If something funny happens to your car...I'd bet there is probably a computer log somewhere...So get out your court orders and get that log-VIOLA-You've figured out what happened. And I'm pretty sure you'd have a great case if some random schmucktard at a computer just shut your computer off for shits and giggles.
