Hi guys I need help installing my backup camera. I purchased the camera with harness and the rear mirror with LCD in it. can I make the rest of the wire harness that I need? How do I connect it? My truck is a 2007 Toyota Tacoma trd off road and it is not pre wired for camera. Thank you in advance.

You are going to have to have to wire it yourself, now I don't know if you can purchase the wiring harness from a newer truck and install it but you can probably run your own wires instead. If the camera and screen run off of 12v, you can probably just tap into an existing 12v line and run power from that but you'll have to run the video line from the tailgate along the frame or body and into the cabin to replace the original rear view mirror.

Thanks for your reply! I hope someone can show me how to tap in the 12v and do my own wiring. I can run the wires to get to the mirror no problem.

this is a partial thread showing pics of installing the camera in the tailgate but all you need to do is a search on google with the words tacoma world after it and you should be able to scroll through multiple tacomaworld threads that will explain everything about installing in an older truck, may need to use multiple threads.

I have checked all over the threads and I have found nothing showing me how to add a oem camera to a older 2nd gen Tacoma without pre wired. Thank you for your reply!

Should be fairly easy, just install mirror, install camera into tailgate with new tailgate handle ( very straight forward), run wire length of truck, tap into backup lights for power since you only want the camera to come on during backup.

You probably won't find a step by step on how to do this as it's pretty straight forward. Sometimes you just gotta jump right in.....

It appears you are going to need a harness from the tailgate to the cab.

The following thread and its associated links may help:

If you wanted to check on bikes or trailer during a tow you would need to install a separate switch in parallel so you could check during a journey and not just set to come on during reverse.

So you guys think it will work if I cut right under the molex connector of the camera harness and get cat 5 wire match the colors sotter them together run them all the way to the front and find a connector that will connect to my rear view mirror? And also connect the video to 12v so wen I go in reverse it will trigger the camera? What do you guys think?
