    Hello All!

So I have a standard 2005 2.7 base model taco that I have started to (slightly) mod.

I have put on steel front and rear bumpers, the 3 inch lift/level kit, and 32 11×15's with the pro comp 69 vintage alloy wheels - or what one might call, a lot of extra fuckin weight.

Needless to say, I have lost almost all power (torque?) in my 5th gear, as in, when traveling at Texas highway speeds (80 mph and above), I can no longer put it in 5th gear and maintain those speeds, unless I'm traveling down hill.
And any acceleration I DID have in 5th gear is also gone, which causes me to have to keep it in 4th in order to drive at these higher speeds, which I do a lot of, for work. (Sad wallet)

Btdubs, not a blown head gasket or anything like that, I noticed a change immediately after putting on the wheels and tires.

    So 2 questions, maybe 3.

    1) would a re-gear fix this? From my (limited) understanding, re-gears only really help with the torque in the lower gears, and might even negatively affect higher mphs?

    2) there are superchargers that are made for this specific model. Would installing THAT fix that?
Also, what effects would a super charger have on my truck in general?

    3) if i DO install a super charger, would a regear even be necessary?

I'm not looking for opinions or looking to be swayed to do one thing or not do another thing, I just don't know and can't find exactly what I'm looking for, which is the effects these drive train mods, both in conjuction with one another and separate, would have on my truck (hopefully that doesn't come off as rude!)

    I appreciate the time!

    Thanks a bunch

A tire thats almost 20% larger diameter is the problem (along with the extra width and tons of extra rotating mass). You are spinning significantly lower rpms to go the same MPH. A regear will solve this across the board and is pretty much necessary in your case supercharger or not.

You added a fuckton of rolling mass that your 2.7 is now pushing.

Personally for me the most sensible answers are either a) learn to embrace the 60mph life, or b) start jettisoning some weight.:cookiemonster:

    To answer your questions,

    1) you are correct, regearing helps low end grunt, but it's still going to suck at 80. You'll be punishing that poor engine due to weight.

    2) from what I read, a supercharged 2.7 will put out 200-250ish hp. It will definitely get you there, but that's a damn expensive way to go.

Sell your truck and buy one with the 4.0 V6. I do not mean that as a joke, I am not being a hater just practical. You will probably spend more than your current truck is worth doing gears and supercharger to get the same performance as a stock 4.0.

Edit: Forgot to say the alternate option is to go back down in tire size to something that your 2.7 is happier with. But that’s no fun and you said you don’t want to be swayed. Other people answered your direct questions and I agree regear would be mandatory - supercharger or not. Good luck whichever way you go.
