Yes they are. Best boots ever. I will gladly spend the money for them. I've got 2 pairs of Ft Lewis's right now, one I got in Kodiak (insulated) and one (non insulated) while I was in VA. The one's from VA last well into 5 years and I need to send them off for an overhaul. Kodiak pair as backup doing quite well.

    This brings up another dilema:

6" or 8" or hiker? I normally wear 6", but like my hikers

I'm an Equipment Operator for Public Works... I operate Loaders, Excavators, Backhoes, Dump Trucks, etc... I also repair sewer/water lines, install meter pits, etc... Very diverse work load since the town is so small... Also, it's at 9500 feet in the Colorado mountains... I don't want insulated, but wouldn't mind Goretex... I have nice Salomon winter boots for when it is really cold and snowy...

I've been wearing steal toed boots for atleast 10 years where I work.

The only pair of boots that I found to be comfortable and lasted a L O N G time were Doc Martins basic ankle height boots. They're expensive but well worth it. HOWEVER - about 3 years ago, I tried to look for the exact same type of boots I thought I found them..... but.... these new pairs SUCK BIG TIME. I don't know what happened - either I didn't find the right ones or their quality went downhill. These boots were a lot cheaper too which should've been a redflag.

I'm very picky also - and most of the boots I've ever tried on are hard as hell and aren't comfortable. I have a couple pairs at work now that I like, but I honestly don't know what brand they are. I'll look and report back.

I highly recommend getting 2 pairs of boots and rotating them day to day.
I've found this to be much easier on my feet and it allows the boots to air-out (reduces the chances of athletes foot). I also sprinkle foot powder in them from time to time.

Danner or Red Wings.. I prefer Red Wings but I am biased as I have worn them for 20yrs. On the flight deck they were the only boots to hold up for longer than 6mos.

Yes and they rock. I wish Magnum made boots like they used too. :(

Depends. I have 8" steelies myself, but I find that they can impede movement if there is lots of squatting or kneeling, but the trade off is vastly improved ankle support.

    Surfs,

Yup, that is the boot. I have them in brown "coffee" color. It is absolutely the most comfortable boot I ever had. I've worn these for these for many 14 hour work days without ANY problems.

A female colleague prefers to wear these boots over any of her normal "ladies" shoes!))))

    Regards,
    Bob

    Ok, I'll bite.
Where can you get these boots (stores that is)?

I can't buy shoes without trying them on first and the fact that my employer pays $75 towards my work boots and having them reimburse me for an online purchase will be like pulling teeth.

    Janster;

I live on Long Island NY and have seen the Timberland Pro series in: Work n Gear, Sears, Bob's clothing stores, etc.

    Good luck!

I use the original swat boots, i work twelve hour shifts and I think they're the best I've ever had, the ones I have might be composite though, but they are very comfy, and I chose the ones with a zipper down the side as well so if its hot, zipppp and instant breeze

Al but a couple of Danner models are now made in China

The last pair of the Quarry model that I ordered directly from Danner came with a nice made in China stamp but of course I didn't see a reduction in the price.

They won't get my business again, if I'm going to spend over $200 for a pair of boots they had better say made in USA

[IMG]Tony Lama Work Western series has several options for steel toes. I have a pair of the non steel toes and they are the most comfortable work boots I have owned. They look like a cross between work boots and western boots. You can wear them when you go out as well as for work of course.

They may not say it, but trust me...They come in steel toe.

It's Mandatory for Calgary EMS, and the Acadias are one of two boots offered through the company program.

Most of the names mentioned should do well, but it's up to you for the comfort. I have worn them all, and I prefer Redwings. I currently have 3 pair, and change them out through the week. If you can swing it, get two pair, and they will last for longer, than just one pair.

We started wearing steel toes at work about 4 or 5 years ago and I must say all steel toe or composit toes boots suck..period. Although, the most confortable Ive worn are Timberland pro with the composit toe. Good luck!!!
