I have the exact same problem as you, same area. Mine is bent and it hides the license plate a little bit. What i'm gonna do is just try to flatten it out with something, i've been planning on painting my bumpers black so i'm going to grind down the rust and scruff up the entire chrome bumper. I got this stuff that basically stops rust in its tracks so i'm gonna coat it with that crap, it will look like hell for a little while until i paint over it with plastikote.

I'll go out later and look for the name of that rust stuff later, can't remember the name. So far that's my solution, unless someone has a better idea.

EDIT: Got this stuff called Corroless Rust Stabilizer, works pretty good. Also Rust Killer is a good product, stops the rust from spreading. This of course, if you don't plan on buying a replacement bumper.

Easy solution buy a new one. That rust spot is very common on the first gen taco.

I would sand it all off and paint it. It would be a lot less noticeable and wouldn't rust anymore. I painted mine black, it wasn't rusting, I just like the look. I used Rustoleum "Painter's Touch" primer with gloss black, and Rustoleum Crystal Clear Enamel. Its holing up great and looks great.

You could also use spray on bedliner, it looks good too.

Mine was only rusting under that black cap on the top of the bumper. Glad I caught it

That's not really sandable and paintable. It's beyond that.

Sure you could throw a few coats of paint over it but it'll never hide the fact the rust has completely rusted through the metal.

Like someone said, replace it with a new-to-you one. There's always someone selling one in the marketplace after they bought an aftermarket.

Tin foil and coke...... Or was it aluminum foil? One of the two. Rub the foil on the rust using the pop as a lubricant. Worked for me in some light surface rust

Jesus never wore shoes. In all the children's books, he walked barefoot.
