I have an older optima yellow top, so old it was also used as the 2nd battery set up in my FJ Cruiser and I've had it in my 2013 Tacoma since Nov '12.
I hear the newer optima are crap and don't last as long.
I'm going to need a replacement this coming spring to be on safe side.
Problem is the mounting cage is built for the yellow top I'm going to need a battery that's the same size to fit the box.
Any suggestions for me to look at?
Needs to be a deep cell, battery.
    Thanks

I just bought the red top again 3 year warranty and it's a good battery for the added lights and sound system I have. Idk where you heard they are crap, a simple Google will show you that that's the opposite opinion of the majority of users

Red tops suck if you are in a hot climate. I went through 2 in my Corvette in only 24 months. Pure crap. I got a yellow top and its now 3 years old and doing well as long as I keep it on a battery tender when not driving. But at the price, I am sure you can get as good a deep cell for far less.

I've been in Bama and Ne Florida and run Red tops without any issue. And I have high humidity and heat.

So.... I bought my one owner 08 taco in 2012, 45k miles. I have put 63k on my self and only this year replaced my battery with a yellow top... Very happy with it. I was in disbelief it was the original OEM Toyota battery. Wow - wish I could find another battery that would give 8 years. I guess it happens fairly often though.

    No mods whatsoever!
I just retired my yellow top Optima after 6 years, and went with an Exide battery from Napa.

i build mine equipment and in all of our trucks except the [electric trucks] we have been using red tops or yellow tops for the last 5 years without many issues some mines are +40*C and very humid.
i have had a few dead ones right off the shelf but its rare
