I notice a lot of people here prefering short beds?

I wish 8 foot beds were still available.

Well let's see, a number of reasons...

The short bed looks great with the DC.

It's a easier to park and maneuver in/out tight spots, making it a better daily driver and off-road tourer, important since I wanted a DC for passengers.

The short bed takes a bobcat scoop just fine for loading up 1/2ton of gravel or mulch. 1/2 ton is all I'd want to deal with in one load, thanks.

Knowing what I do now: if I needed more than 1/2 ton load capacity in commercial service I would absolutely get an F150. Tacoma's aren't now, and never were, more than a 1/2 ton residential 'weekend' hauler.

If a situation arises where I need more room, or more than 1/2 ton capacity, I'll hook up a trailer and save my suspension and axle.

Good points, but a long bed is useful for more than just carrying more weight. I carry long lumber and such where weight is not really a big issue. A Hitch Hand is helpful for some things, but for, say, landscape timbers or plywood, a longer bed is more utilitarian.

why dont you just buy a double cab then? why throw money away, you say "flip" it like youll make a profit from the AC to step up to a DC????/

i like the short bed because its easier to park, fits in my garage, and looks good.......but i wish i had the long bed for increased cargo

    ^^ True that!
I love my Long Bed! Im a carpenter and its just right for my needs. .I do need to get a bed extender still bc of the tool box. But I still have plenty of room..

Parking can be a bitch but Its not that bad... I drive a huge 20' box Van during the week so Im use to parking big vehicles.. :)

    1) The Off Road DC only is available in a 5 ft. bed. I wouldn't want it any longer for the trails I drive... I already snagged my rear bumper because it is a bit too long.

    2) The 2nd. gen (wider/ deeper) 5 ft. bed holds all my cargo I used to put in my 1st gen.'s 6 ft. bed.

    3) My garage door won't close if my truck was a foot longer... I have just 6" clearance now.

I have to say, and I've said it before... my next Tacoma will be a DCLB 4X4, in black or MGM, I think. I love the long bed in my 2000 and am a little remorseful I settled on a short box for my 2010. Oh well, live and learn. Still an awesome truck!

Parking in any longer vehicle is just a matter of practice. Becomes second nature after a few tries.

I can't imagine parking a DCLB in the area I live 'cept for big box stores...and Charleston is a small town.

I was mostly just joking, but I do park in an underground garage where they've squeezed as many spaces as possible, assuming we all drive Ford Festivas or something.

Yes, it seems, over the years that parking spaces have gotten smaller on average. I can attest to that. It can be aggravating at times.

I prefer a long bed because I need a place to keep my huge dick.

I was very graciously given the best space in the whole garage by management here, because I had a motorcycle when I moved in. It's deeper than the other spaces.

On one side of my space is a wall, and on the other is a handicapped space where no one ever parks. But the space itself is quite small, and the wall doesn't leave any room for error. I've tried backing in, but there's really no good angle being that I'm at the end of the row and there's a wall there. I just have to make an attempt that ends crooked, and then reverse and straighten it out.

LOL...I've noticed the vehicles in the upper price range (Porches and the like) go to the upper levels, if not the roof of the garage. And yeah, longer trucks/SUVs tend to have better luck backing in for whatever reason.
